Albert Pujols dropped his 3,000th hit into right field. The Angels left the dugout and met him at first. The Safeco Field fans gave him a nice standing ovation. He is the 4th player ever to have 3,000 hits and 600 HRs: Aaron, Mays, ARod.
This season, my Cards have been a disappointment. Matheny got fired, the team is under-performing, injuries everywhere, etc. But what Daniel Poncedeleon did on Monday night, a year removed from having emergency brain surgery after getting hit in the head with a line drive, is nothing short of amazing. Even if Poncedeleon never pitches in the Major Leagues again, throwing 7 innings without allowing a hit in his debut with his dad in attendance was one of those amazing sports moments I’ll never forget, despite losing the game. Hats off to Mr. Poncedeleon, what an accomplishment. I hope he gets more chances for the Cards this year and beyond.
The Yankees announce that Aaron Judge has sustained a chip fracture of the right wrist. It is the ulnar styloid bone. No surgery has been recommended. It will be about three weeks before he can swing a bat in a game situation.
