Watts Don't care for Theron, at all. Don't really love either tho. But I will say Theron was the better actress in a movie about a gorilla. Mighty Joe Young.... She'll still always be this for me....

Come on, it's easily Theron.
Yes, Watts had Mulholland Drive, but Theron has:
The Devil's Advocate The Italian Job Monster North Country Young Adult Atomic Blonde Mad Max:Fury Road Tully Long Shot Bombshell
More versatile in Drama, Comedy, Action, and physical transformations. We don't talk enough about the fact that it's almost like she's the female version of Christian Bale. She easily wins the match.

Watts has (arguably) the best performance in the coolest movie (Mulholland Drive), but overall, it's Theron all the way. Theron's bombastic in a way few other performers are. She does each drama, comedy and action as if she was specifically born to to each of those things. She's got this intensity that makes her a supernova on screen, few are that commanding. In most things, Watts pales next to her.
And even if Watts in Mulholland Drive is better regarded (and I love her in it!), it's a candle in the wind next to the strenght and gravitas Theron brings to Young Adult and Tully.

Both can be brilliant (Mulholland Drive, Monster), both can be terrible (Theron's 90's work, a lot of Watts's more recent work). So....Theron based on random recency bias.

pacinoyes what da ya think? ( I missed your long assed analysis) 😜 Hmmm........well I do resemble that remark Theron can do more across more kinds of material so her........I do like Watts though and she can go deep and be messy about it which is always a plus. I think Watts needs "the role" more than Theron needs it to make an impression on me ........I mean Theron is great in Devils Advocate and adds a lot to even that and she brings more to that relatively minor role. It's nice to see 2 talented beautiful actresses who don't always care how they look on camera too - they can have, at times, a lack of vanity......

I like them both but I definitely prefer the much more consistent Theron.

Watts.
Theron's only performance that is equal to Watts top 3 (Mulholland Dr., 21 Grams, Impossible) is North Country.

Naomi Watts is an exceptional actress, and gives my all-time favourite performance in Mulholland Drive, but I have to give it Theron on consistency alone, particularly in the last few years.

Kinda annoying how the board seems to have forgotten literally everything else of Naomi except her bad films and Mulholland Drive. Her 2010s run might not have been great, maybe awful (even if she did have some amazing performances in Twin Peaks, The Impossible, Birdman), her 00s run has to be one of the most 'consistent' of all. And as varied as it can be with heavy dramas, comedy etc. I'll give it you that she seems to have lost her mojo and the likes of Blanchett, Kidman etc have all surpassed her but there are some other great movies of hers too (Mother and Child and Ellie Parker alone trumps a lot of those superior actresses' performances) and not just Mulholland fuckin Drive. She cannot touch Charlize, the action star though. Nobody can. They are both two of the greatest actresses of our generation who are not given enough credits with the variety of performances they have.

Charlize doesn't always hit it out of the park, but she also hasn't flagrantly humiliated herself the way Naomi has on many occasions. Peak to peak it's pretty close, but overall I think the former is slightly more versatile (though I think Watts is an underrated comedienne) and certainly more consistent.

Also, I don't think Theron has done something as bad as whatever it was it that Watts did in 21 Grams, so kudos to her. I have no idea what was going on there. 21 Grams is pretty heavy-handed but overall solid, and I like how AGI directs actors. Plus, as it's been established, Watts is very talented. I don't understand how she delivered a performance that terrible.

Not a fan of neither. Theron is more fan to watch. Watts is usually boring. Watts has much more depth, something that Theron will never have. Also I don't like Theron physical transformation when is not need it, usually distracts the performance.-
So to sum up, Watts highs are higher, but also her lows are lower.
Maybe Watts is a better actress, but If I'm a producer I choose Theron, that's a unique actress. You can have a dozen of Watts in the market.- So I choose Theron at the end.- Naomi Watts is more like the last minute replacement.-
