Fantastic book (reviewed it in the Books thread) - do not think it will transfer except episodically .....there's a lot in the book that is extremely repetitive which works to read that you can leave out of the film, but I'm guessing it'll be overstuffed as a movie ........we'll see, it does deserve a great adaptation that's for sure.

Very mixed Twitter reactions for Cherry. Most seem to agree that Tom Holland gives an impressive performance, but most reactions don't seem sold on the film itself, and that may limit Holland's chances of breaking into a crowded Best Actor race.

Critics will tear this to shreds.

The use of voice over narration is going to be a big problem here ...........you can tell from the clip........no one will want to see it explained like that from scene to scene and this book explodes at times on the page - you have to come up with a visual approach not merely filming the book being quoted.......everyone should read the book obviously but the clip doesn't suggest anyone "needs" to see that movie......we'll see.

Well, at least the pans seem to rave Holland, so I'm hoping someone takes a chance with him and gives him something to work with in the near future.

I feel his biggest problem in getting those meaty adult roles to transition to adult leading man is his look. He's 24 years old, but still looks like a teenager. A lot of actors have struggled in this regard... Elijah Wood, Jamie Bell, Daniel Radcliffe. Even his Spider-Man predecessor Tobey Maguire suffered that as well. Someone who was overcoming that "perennial babyface syndrome" (before fucking it up with abusive behavior) was Shia Labeouf. But he did everything humanly possible to offset his babyface looks (weirdo behavior, tattoos, growing grizzly Adams facial hair, bodybuilding etc).

Yeah, and it doesn't help that Holland's still attached to the Marvel machine, who is going to milk Peter Parker's youth for all it's worth. Is he still in high school after all this time, btw?!

Well from Marvel's perspective, it was a smart move to cast an actor who looks like he will still be getting carded trying to buy alcohol in his early 30's. They get to milk a youthful Spidey for at least another decade. If he was aging faster, they might have moved his Peter Parker to College age by now, but there is no real need, since he still looks about 15 or 16. So you can still sell him in those high school scenarios. Even Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were taken out of the high school context as Spider-Man fairly quickly, but both of them looked clearly older than Holland as well.

Looks like the Russo's may have shot their lid early in trying to make an Oscar baity type drama, probably should have waited a couple more movies. I'm seeing comparisons to Michael Bay, which probably means they kept up a lot of the same kind of editing from their earlier Marvel movies for the war scenes.
Also funny how Peter and Michelle have two movies coming out that appear to be near getting complete opposite reactions from critics and pundits.
