And feel free to extend thoughts to the films that house them if I can be so bold as to suggest such a thing on the Acting forum Kim Hye-Ja in Mother (2009) Yoon Jeong-Hee in Poetry (2010) Deanie Ip in A Simple Life (2011)

I never watched Simple Life, between the other two performances, I would put it in the same order; 1. Kim Hye-Ja 2. Yoon Jeong-Hee
I consider Kim's performance in Mother to be the best female performance of 2009 and one of the best of the 2000s. Yoon's performance is good too, and is in my top 10 of 2010 and is also one of my favorites from the past decade.

Is it worth adding Jeon Do-yeon in The Housemaid (2010)?

We could maybe add something of YOURS in there, but only if it lines up chronologically with these three.

Kim and Yun are best of the decade stuff. Yun's probably my favorite Haven't seen A Simple Life.

Mother is a phenomenal film and Kim gives the performance of its year. For an hour is the classic whodunit affair flirting with melodrama but when the mother realises that she'll have to do it on her own, Mother becomes something more, even she becomes a different person, probably the one she was years ago, is a complex transformation and changes the personality of the film, the questions that are asked in the end stay with you for a long time. Love the deadpan humor and satire, Kim's character goes to dark places but her reactions are so specific that also look absurd even hilarious.
Lee's films are great because there's always a surprise from scene-to-scene, always keep you guessing what's coming next but here is done in such a delicate way that is easy to see the big picture ( immorality, dominance.. ). I see the similarities with Mother but Poetry is more a pure drama, the men in the film do awful things but the point the movie is making never becomes a preachy session. Yoon is the heart of the film.
A Simple Life reminded me of Ozu, is heavy stuff what the main character goes though, it could be a melodramatic sobbing fest but there are small doses of humor which makes it all more moving. Yip and Lau are really good together, you can buy their relationship. It's a good film but prefer the other two.

1. Jeong-hie Yun in Poetry -- Excellent performance. At first she seems like a typical, gentle old lady but as the film gets darker, Yun's work only becomes more affecting and layered, culminating in that wonderful monologue in the poetry class . Her character's arc is expertly executed and there wasn't a moment when I wasn't emotionally invested in her journey. Also one of the best films of 2010. 2. Deanie Ip in A Simple Life -- Not your typically baity performance but she carries the film with such grace and charisma. She was only about 63 when she made this and yet she never looked like she was making an effort to portray a much older character. I love how she conveyed the physical decline of her character and, like avnermoriarti said, she had great chemistry with Andy Lau. Also one of the best films of 2011. 3. Hye-Ja Kim in Mother -- Can't remember much about her performance or film but at the time I found it solid if a little overrated.
