I guess this is a movie......I don't know what this is but the original is turning over in its outdated grave/video store. Acclaimed Broadway cast & director:

You lost me at Ryan Murphy. Thankfully he's neither directing nor writing this, so the OP is giving him too much credit.

I took Ryan Murphy out of the description....let's not speak of him again.

Really like Friedkin's 1970 film and I was looking forward to this but that trailer looks baaaad and not just because I didn't realize Jim Parsons was playing the Kenneth Nelson part (talk about a downgrade! ). Quinto looks like the standout, but then he's playing the bitter-Jewish-queen Leonard Frey part and Frey was the standout of the original too. Was interested in this before I saw the Parsons casting or Murphy involvement, but after watching that trailer I'm side-eyeing this thing hard (and not just because of those two things). I don't know if this story makes sense in 2020 anymore, even as a period piece. The self-hating gay narrative is woefully outdated, even regressive. The play/movie had a lot to say in '68/'70 but it's not relevant anymore, and Murphy's shallow pastiche-y aesthetic which is all over that damn trailer isn't going to do it any favors.

It’s really tough to get a feel for this trailer because it essentially looks like the play word for word with a different cast. I’ve seen the original film and it’s great but I’m not sure if it really needed to be remade.
