Let's go back and try to determine which films would have filled out the field of 10 Best Picture nominees. For years with 9 nominees, you can only select 1 option. For years with 5, you will be able to select 5 options. Some years will be more obvious than others and some will have more options. This isn't based on personal preferences. These are realistic options based on acclaim, precursor support and other Oscar nominations.
There were only 8 nominees in 2014 year so make sure to pick 2. Normally, it would be strange to get nominated for BP with only 1 other Oscar nod but Selma did it with Best Original Song.
Foxcatcher - 5 Oscar noms, GG, 2 BAFTA noms
Gone Girl - 1 Oscar nom, PGA, 2 BAFTA noms Ida - 2 Oscar noms, 2 BAFTA nomas
Inherent Vice - 2 Oscar noms
Interstellar - 5 Oscar noms, 4 BAFTA noms
Into the Woods - 3 Oscar noms, GG, 2 BAFTA noms Nightcrawler - 1 Oscar nom, PGA, 4 BAFTA noms
Unbroken - 3 Oscar noms Wild - 2 Oscar noms, 1 BAFTA nom
Previous results 2019 - Knives Out (22 votes). 2018 - If Beale Street Could Talk (18 votes) and Cold War (14 votes) 2017 - I, Tonya (20 votes) 2016 - Jackie (15 votes) 2015 - Carol (25 votes) and Inside Out (14 votes)

Pretty crazy how all of the films that have won so far have had female leads or co-leads and would've made for slightly more diverse line-ups.
Apart from that: Foxcatcher is #9 (breaking the trend) Wild #10 (continuing the trend) -- I want it to be Gone Girl but let's be real.

Foxcatcher for 9th, Wild for 10th. Still insane to me that Wild didn't get an adapted nod in such a weak year but it wouldn't have needed it to get in over the rest of these picks.
