I'm not proud but I binged this in 24 hours because apparently I'm a masochist. I would be lying if I said it was completely awful, there are a few things that work like Judy Davis but it's a complete mess that completely misses the point of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and the character of Ratched and Murphy just repeats so many things from his previous works. Still it was okay entertainment up until that godawful finale which has to be one of the worst episodes I've seen in years.

so basically this sounds like Murphy per usual. Beautiful but messy. Incoherent and illogical plot? You don't say!
Yeah, I might've checked this out but the reviews have convinced me that it's precisiely the kind of Murphy project I'd hate, for the same reasons I never finished AHS Freak Show or AHS Hotel, OR AHS Roanoke.

I haven't seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest so I can't say how much of this is complete nonsense, but I've enjoyed it. For me, it is a return to form and closer to the earlier AHS and I like it more than Hollywood. All the betrayals and manipulations have kept the story interesting and Sarah Paulson, Judy Davis, Jon Jon Briones, Cynthia Nixon, put in good performances (poor Sharon Stone was totally wasted with little to do). Loved Sophie Okonedo, even if her story is lifted from Sybil. I thought there was a nice balance of crime melodrama, suspense, absurdity & grotesqueness and the production values are high, the sets & costumes are lavish & gorgeous. I kept getting a Hitchcockian vibe (Vertigo, Psycho) and then I realised it was the music. I'm giving this an 8/10 (Imdb has it rated as a 7.6 and it's not as bad as people are making out). Definitely one for fans of AHS, but I wouldn't want to see a second season of this.
