Damn, when't the last time such a big movie star has died in his prime? This is so sad. He played Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and then of course Black Panther, which got a level of social attention no typical for a superhero movie.
Haven't seen the movie but is a posthumous Oscar possible for Da 5 Bloods?

I'm still in shock, like this doesn't feel real. I found out the news whilst working at my kids soccer weekend job and it took everything in me to not start crying in front of the kids. RIP to an absolute legend

I was looking at his filmography after my post and that's all he has "in the can" so it's his last movie. A better chance there since he's a co-lead. Awarding him would be a nice gesture since he really seemed to be on an upward trajectory career wise.

Fuckin' hell, this year. Makes Da 5 Bloods that much more heartbreaking in retrospect.

I literally woke up to this news. This is unbelievable. He was so great as Black Panther and in Da 5 Bloods, and the fact that he portrayed a superhero in the midst of battling cancer is crazy. I don't even know how to process this.
Rest in power Chadwick. You'll be missed.

So sad. His career was just getting started. When he worked with Spike Lee, I was hoping he’d get more opportunities to work with acclaimed directors. He doesn’t have a lot of screentime in Da 5 Bloods but it’s a really good performance.
Also this video of him is super sweet. You could tell he took playing culturally iconic black figures (fictional and real) like Black Panther and Jackie Robinson really seriously.

Awful news A great actor, who was only going to keep getting better. He had an Oscar in his future, no question. And gone too young. This isn't a huge shock to me though, but I was hoping whatever was ailing him was something he could recover from. But the pictures of his weight loss several months ago were so extreme that it seemed clear he was dealing with something extremely serious. Chadwick Boseman has left behind a solid legacy. He will always be Black Panther. He played James Brown, Jackie Robinson and Thurgood Marshall. He will be remembered. RIP.

This is the most shocking celebrity death to me since Heath Ledger. Really sad to read that he's been battling stage 3 colon cancer for four years while working like a horse and having to keep it a secret. May he rest in peace. More shocking than PSH? I know it's not a competition or anything but Anton Yelchin has still been the most recent celebrity death to shock me the most, both because his young age and the bizarre circumstances of his death. Likewise here, Boseman's image as a rising talent cut short is what makes this really sting.

Jesus, that's so sad. I wasn't hugely familiar with his work, but he was always a fantastically watchable screen presence, and he seemed to be a wonderful person, helping those in need even through his own sickness. Rest in peace, wish his family all the best.

Damn, when't the last time such a big movie star has died in his prime? That Star Wars guy. Or was it Star Trek? Yelchin was probably the best actor in his age range, but he never had starring roles in big movies - Scotty was one of the smaller roles in the ST cast (although I hold that he was the only actor that brought any real joy to his performance) - and despite his immense talent, he hadn't quite broken through into starring in major films. Not sure that he ever would have had that breakthrough tbh, because he was much more suited to character roles.

He was 47 when he died even though he looked about a generation older than Boseman.

I knew who I meant, anyway. He was still the best part of the movie.
