Al Pacino greatest performance in films after his 50s??? (thus we exclude his terrific work in Television and Theatre).

He was 49 in '89 for Sea of Love. I would say that it's Donnie Brasco - there's so much going on in that performance - the way he dials down his charisma, the way he acts without speaking at the end AND comes up with one of his greatest physical "moves" - ever.....in the photo below. It is the most perfect example of how great and unique he is - he walks the line between being pathetic and scary. There is great humor in the portrayal.....there's great sadness in it.........and it's nothing like his previous Italian gangster (Michael Corleone). By the way aside from all those wonderful portrayals in the list I would say The Humbling (and to a lesser extent Danny Collins though that got a Golden Globe nod) is his most underrated film performance 50+.....one day people will look at that Manglehorn/Danny Collins/The Humbling trifecta for how marvelous they really were out of nowhere in less than a year........and that was ~3 years after me saying on IMDB that I thought he was kind of done at 72

Donnie Brasco, The Insider, Scent of a Woman and The Merchant of Venice are the top-4 imo after his 50s (The Irishman making it a top-5). I'll give the edge to Donnie Brasco.

Angels in America and You Don't Know Jack are far and away the best performances he's given in his period (and frankly, I consider them his best work overall). But if we're counting film performances, I'd say Glengarry Glen Ross is the best.

The Irishman or The Insider.
Also a shout out to his terrific portrayal of Shylock in the deeply underrated The Merchant of Venice. He should have been nominated for that.

I looked at De Niro similar topic first, the contrast in quality between the two..... Anyway :
01/ Donnie Brasco 02/ Heat 03/ Scent of a Woman 04/ Glengarry Glen Ross 05/ ?? Certainly Carlito's Way
Al's body of performances during the 90's is absolutely stellar.

I’ll go with Heat because the ad-libs and acting choices he makes in that film are almost Scarface level iconic. How quotable and imitated is his performance in that?
By the time I get to Phoenix....he’ll be riiiiiissssssiiiiinnn. He’ll probably leave a note...right on the door.

Just wanted to mention since people have brought up so many of his post 50+ turns that he of course also has 2 films post-60 that are among his best post-2000 character performances - Chinese Coffee (2000) and People I Know (2003) that almost no one, not even his fans have even seen at all Chinese Coffee is the better film .......each have some fans on MAR because we have good taste, we're not Reddit or Gold Derby after all.

I swear, every line he delivers in both Scarface and Heat is absolutely quotable. He may be the most quotable actor of all time.
