I can see why the Academy went for this. So raw, real and devastating. My vote goes to Sigourney but this is top notch:

Watched this recently. The film itself was pretty average, but Foster's performance is indeed phenomenal - full of both fierce fire and heartbreaking vulnerability.

Sigourney's my pick of the nominees (and the year), and I do also prefer all of the other women in the category to Foster, but the work she does is pretty solid and I've got no issue with her first win. If anything, we should be grateful for it, because there's a very real chance if she doesn't win for that, they might give her second Oscar out for Nell instead.

The movie is ok but Foster is my winner for the year.

It's a brilliant and devastating performance trapped in a dated film that's always going be carrying the same baggage (and I still liked the film more than most but I understand the criticism). I give her the slightest edge over Close and Streep for the win. Academy made the right call. unpopular opinion but I didn't care for the Weaver performance at all
