By the way, pacinoyes , what are your early predictions for winners at this stage? Golden Lion: In Between DyingBest Actor: Casey Affleck, The World to ComeBest Actress: Yû Aoi, Wife of a SpyScreenplay: Chloé Zhao, NomadlandDirector: Majid Majidi, Sun ChildrenThat intriguing trailer for In Between Dying that I posted the other day was so on the line of seeming deeply profound or a pretentious misfire I have to figure it will have everybody talking at least. I've watched that trailer 5 times and I can't decide if it's beautiful and poetic like Kieslowski's "No End" or if it's a wannabe "No End".

2nd big trailer of the day: A lot more Goonies in there than I would have expected, but the serious edge to the trailer makes me dig it. I quite enjoyed Majidi's Children of Heaven (my only encounter with the man), so count me in.

That's a very good, haunting trailer for Padrenostro. Not giving too much away but a lot of guarded glances and violence lurking. Apparently it's partly based on a real assassination attempt on the filmmaker's own father who was the chief of Italy's anti-terror unit in the '70s. I think this screens at Venice tmrw, curious.....

Apparently it's partly based on a real assassination attempt on the filmmaker's own father who was the chief of Italy's anti-terror unit in the '70s. I think this screens at Venice tmrw, curious..... Here's a few: 3/5 Guardian - What can't be faulted is Noce's sheer boldness and ambition. If Padrenostro winds up as a bit of a mess, it's a beautiful mess, a glorious mess...Slight positive - Variety - A handsomely made "inspired by" drama with a few powerful sequences studded within a less satisfactory screenplay...Negative - Screen International - Despite this riveting premise, Padrenostro goes the way of 1970s cuisine in being over-cooked to the level of boil-in-a-bag.

How’s LaBeouf in Pieces of a Woman? LaBeouf gives another strong turn in Pieces of a Woman; i would say his character is slightly limited by the movie as he looses some focus during the second half. He and Kirby have terrific chemistry as you can feel what they’re going through and their scenes are probably the best in the movie. He could still contend for the Volpi Cup i guess as there is no clear frontrunner yet (Favino’s character is secondary in Padrenostro and i wasn’t very impressed by him).
