I thought it was an engaging series about 5 different sides of childbirth and raising babies. 1) Reese who blossoms with 4 babies, 2) The McCulloughs who can't have even one, 3) Bebe Chow who has a child under those conditions, 4) Mia who has to go to those reaching lengths to have her child and to protect her secret, 5) Lexi who is the victim of teenage pregancy and is the only one to go through with an abortion.
I saw the series twice, and then read the book all because I instantly loved it. In the book, there is much less emphasis on race. The racial tension is much less the warfare the series depicts. It's not even mentioned if Mia and Pearl were even black in the book. The book seems mostly about the childbirth and child raising aspect, as well as the obsession the Warrens and Richardsons have with each other. Everything else is mostly similar.
I like Reese more than probably anyone here. I like everything Reese. EVERYTHING. This is easily one of the top things she has done. Her performance would win an Emmy if it were up to me. It would be hard for anyone in film to top her work here this year.

Unnecessary comment, but I prefer this series to Big Little Lies.
