Very good list of performances, but none of them would make my personal top 10 (or even top 50). Peter O'Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia is my favourite of the bunch.

Well....I dislike rating performances across different eras like that and different genders - to make it simpler I always say something jokey like "there's 6 "modern male performances in English (ie post-67)" that I wouldn't even rate because it would be an insult to their greatness" (!) Pacino in GF II/DDA, De Niro in Taxi Driver/Raging Bull, Brando in Last Tango and DDL in TWBB. Now my favorite of those listed is DDA it's one that stands out as being the most "off the page" - and I could make a case that the recitation of the will is my single favorite piece of acting in a scene too. The list, for what it is, is pretty great though....

I think Total Film's 10 Best Performances Ever list is a lot stronger than this. I like Gene Wilder as much as the next guy, but c'mon...... . They got the wrong Pacino performance in the Premiere list as well. The lack of any performances after 1985 makes it look pretty outdated: For comparison, the Total Film Top 10: 1 Jack Nicholson- One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
2 Robert DeNiro- Raging Bull
3 Daniel Day-Lewis- There Will Be Blood
4 Al Pacino- The Godfather Part 2
5 Emily Watson- Breaking The Waves
6 Marlon Brando- On The Waterfront
7 Denzel Washington- Malcolm X
8 Jane Fonda- Klute 9 Paul Newman- The Hustler
10 Meryl Streep- Sophie's Choice

Pacino for DDA and not for the Godfather II??? It's a great list either way.

I know, but the rankings (for me anyway) are part of my issue with the Premiere top 10. Wilder has no business in the top 10 (top 100, fine), and Godfather 2 shouldn't be ranked below DDA...it's Pacino's crowning achievement. The overall Premiere 100 list isn't bad, but I feel like they should have put a bit more thought into the top 10. It feels like the top 10 of an 86 year old former industry stalwart living in a Hollywood retirement home As Stephen said, inspired and modern choices like Watson in Breaking The Waves really make a difference to how you perceive the respective quality and thought process behind both top 10 lists. For me anyway.

Pacino's performance in Dog Day Afternoon demolishes his performance in either Godfather film.

Pacino is my favourite from these, with O'Toole, Streep and Davis also all-time great.

The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it's losing to Pacino.

The one who could have been a contender and I'm a little surprised he isn't one of them here.

DeNiro in Raging Bull is my second favourite performance of all time. So this. But Brando is very close. Streep, O'Toole, Pacino, Davis are brilliant as well.

Voted Brando from this list just ahead of De Niro and O'Toole.
The Total Film list is better purely because DDL in TWBB is included. An egregious snub.
