Surprisingly to myself, I gotta go with the 2013 lineup where I think all the nominees showcase excellence throughout and I really like all of the achievement equally well.
2017 would've been my choice if not for Peele who unfortunately drags it down. 2019 is also pretty awesome but I'm not too huge on Phillips. 2012 is a pretty cool one too.

I would have been good with any of those 5 in 2017 winning.

Ditch Nolan for Guadagnino and 2017 would be an absolutely perfect lineup.

ugh, most of these are pretty bad or have at least one terrible pick. Defaulting to 2014 for Miller.

2018. Vice is trash but the other 4 made up for it.

HM to 2011, but I give the edge to 2017.

2019 were solid picks from top to bottom. 2017 and 2014 are great at the top but none of the other years have the depth of the 2019 noms.

I guess 2014 as it doesn't have any clear flaw. Foxcatcher is the least well directed movie, but still good in that department. And the directions of Birdman (my winner), Grand Budapest, Boyhood (one sure and one probable nominee of mine) and The Imitation Game (close to nomination) are pretty great.
2011 is strong as well, but also missed out on some strong ones.
2016 is pretty solid, but isn't nearly as good at the top (this actually generalises the whole year for me), 2019 might take it, when I have seen Joker and Hollywood as 1917 and Parasite have excellent direction and Irishman a strong one. In 2017 Nolan, Gerwig and del Toro offer great work, but Peeles nod destroys the whole year unfortunately.

Would easily be 2017 if not for Gerwig and to a lesser degree Peele. I'll go with 2016, where there really isn't a weak link. Gibson's nom is a little annoying, but those battle scenes were terrifically helmed.

2019...the other 4 are great enough to make up for Phillips. Would have been rad if Mangold was able to steal that last spot.

2017 would be great if you keep PTA and replace everyone else.
