Yo Netflix, instead of doing this Bond bullshit, why don't you make like 5 high Quality Le Carre films instead? I mean, The Night Listener Manager was a big success... Tinker Tailor was a big success...

Hmm...I just realised. Covid-19 is going to cause a lot of A-list talent who had previously avoided (or not seen the need to do it) streaming, to sign up with streaming platforms. They now have no idea when their studio films will get in cinemas, or if those films will flop because of social distancing or people being wary of cinemas. Right now, streaming platforms must be a godsend to anixious stars. Evans has already done something with Apple TV, but if I'm not mistaken this is Gosling's first streaming movie, so it's something of a coup for Netflix.

I’m guessing that covid will accelerate it for some, but it seems pretty inevitable that pretty much most stars would be willing to do a film/series for a streaming service at this point.

Gosling and Evans would make an awesome duo. Russos did a great with Winter Soldier. Sounds interesting.

Of course, but you still have some hold-outs, like Tom Cruise, who really put a premium on the big screen experience. You have to think even the hold-outs would be thinking much more seriously about streaming now.

While I will be immediately watching this, also worrying that it might take up a lot of Gosling's decade... and opposite Chris Evans ?

Yes on Gosling but I’m guessing Evans will just be the antagonist for this film and move on. I can’t imagine he wants to jump into another potential long-term franchise right now, not at least until he sees how he fairs for the next few years outside of the MCU.

This is another smart move for Evans. He's doing the dramatic stuff like Defending Jacob and things like Knives Out and Little Shop Of Horrors to show a bit a daring in his choices.
Now he goes opposite one of the most well regarded actors of his own generation in Gosling. And honestly, I can see Evans giving the better performance in this film. It's more in his wheelhouse already, and he has an established shorthand with the directors.
Another notch on Evans belt if he goes toe to toe with Gosling and comes out on top.

All the top paychecks are with Streamers and the cherry on top is that you don't have to worry about box office. If you are a recognizable name your stuff will be in the top ten for at least the first week cause Netflix does not get newer movie releases on their platform. Those go to the cable networks like HBO.

I like Evans in serious mode (Sunshine, etc.), but there's zero chance he's better than Gosling in this movie. Gosling is still the highlight of that ridiculous Gangster Squad movie, with that affected Mickey Mouse squeaky voice he put on randomly.

Gosling is still the highlight of that ridiculous Gangster Squad movie, with that affected Mickey Mouse squeaky voice he put on randomly. The synopis of this movie basically reads as Captain America: Winter Soldier, without the superhero costumes. And Evans killed it in that movie. This is his wheelhouse, especially with the same directors. He had the perfect combination of being a serious leading man with on-point physicality to actually make Captain America (a character often percieved to be as staid as Superman) interesting to audiences and a fan favorite. Evans made one of the "squarest" superhero characters cool in that movie. An incredibly underrated achievement that no one saw coming. There's every chance that Evans is better than Gosling in this film. I'm almost expecting it. That's not to say Evans is a better actor overall, but in this genre (or close enough), he has shown that he can give a compelling and badass performance.

I think Evans is incredible as Captain America. To me it almost ranks up there with Christopher Reeve's work as Superman in the genre, especially in making an inherently dull and unrelatable character on paper, inspirational onscreen. I personally don't give a shit if you rate Evans performance in those Marvel movies or not (and that's not meant as an insult.I know many people overlook that standard of performances in those kind of films). But I do rate Evans in that part, and based on that I think he can easily act Gosling off the screen, in what is essentially a very similar genre type of movie. Don't @ me!
