I’m mixed on this. Stewart is right off the page, but aside from Logan, he always seemed underused though that is hardly his fault. McAvoy gives us a very different and younger Charles who is charming, but is also very flawed and is in my opinion, far better utilized. Apples 🍎 and oranges 🍊, but I think I give the slightest edge to Stewart, but I could see myself change my mind the next day. How about you?

I guess Stewart - I just buy him more at face value, McAvoy you have to fill in the gravity of the role for him in a way.......what's funny is they are mirror images of each other career wise as actors - they are stage actors who in film have never really capitalized on their position. James McAvoy has 4 Olivier nominations in a decade - including this year (and he may win this year) that is staggering if you follow it.......Stewart has 5 nominations and 3 wins............they each played Macbeth too so they have another role in common (famously and at different ages there too).......but........ there is just no reason for McAvoy not to be bigger in movies. Fascinating guy to talk about....but so far the story in film at least is a frustrating one.

McEvoy did a great job, but Stewart is Xavier, in much the same way he is Picard. People were fancasting Stewart in the role over a decade before he played it, just based on the resemblance to the character alone. McEvoy could never truly compete with that.
From the very first X-Men film he brought the compassion and gravitas thar defined the character.
Stewart probably deserved a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his work as Xavier in Logan.

McAvoy's fine with what he's given, but that's Stewart's role through and through, and McAvoy knows it.

Stewart, easily.
Same here: Better Xavier in better movies.
