Daniel Auteuil is in the same age range as Hanks, Dafoe, Washington, Bridges is arguably more naturally gifted and even maybe better period than all of them ........and combined those 4 Americans have 25 Oscar nominations. I dunno for actress but I'm telling you Nina Hoss is a great actress, who gives an amazing performance right now in The Audition (2020) and the Academy couldn't care less about her......also my beloved Adèle Haenel but she's still young.

Cillian Murphy on Peaky is so good, I'll throw him a vote.
Riseborough should have a nom or two by now. ERW too.
This used to be easier to answer when Huppert and Oldman were nomless.

HELENA MARIA '91: Supporting Actor - My Own Private Idaho '06: Supporting Actor - A Scanner Darkly '16: Supporting Actor - The Neon Demon (WIN) '16: Supporting Actor - The Bad Batch '18: Lead Actor - Destination Wedding That's not counting the 10 other roles from him I enjoy, I enjoy him in pretty much anything, but he's primarily a character actor who's best playing a slimey bastard or an asshole cult leader. From a subjective standpoint, he's a Top 10 Actor.

My personnal favourite performance of his was the wife beating murder suspect in THE GIFT (2000). It was refreshing to see him doing something different.

English language actors because foreign is too easy and to me, their lack of oscar nominations is understandable. Edward G. Robinson for male actors, the obvious one, one of the very best of his time, it's a shame. Donald Sutherland should have at least one. If oscars happens next year, Delroy Lindo may get his due, it would be nice if Danny Glover (an even greater actor) could gets his in the following years. I feel like all the English language actresses that I consider to be truly great have an oscar nom, right now, I can't think of an obvious choice like EGR. I love Géraldine Chaplin but her best works is in foreign languages, Jamie Lee Curtis is among the best unnominated, Rose Byrne has been my girl since The Goddess of 1967, hope she gets one someday.

I submit Dirk Bogarde and Richard Attenborough. Their best work is in British films not destined for Oscar glory, but both are Oscar-worthy in films the Oscar voters did actually see and nominate: Bogarde in Darling and Attenborough in Seance on a Wet Afternoon and Flight of the Phoenix. The Academy gave the occasional nod to established British vets like Trevor Howard and John Mills but Bogarde and Attenborough never got their due.
Actresses I'd have to think about, but Ricci is a good answer. Also Zhang Ziyi, who would have 10 nominations by now if she was white.

But they're two of the most underrated names. I thought Nighy was really cool in the mid-00s and flew under the radar of most people apart from a select group who recognized him (ME). And I knew Wasikowska was special as early as 2008 (In Treatment). Bergman Island is my #3 or #4 most interested film of 2021.
