Schindler's List easily. Not even sure which of Scorsese's is my favorite- it might be Wolf of Wall Street personally.

Schindler's List easily. Not even sure which of Scorsese's is my favorite- it might be Wolf of Wall Street personally. I misunderstood this at first. I initially thought it was about which director had the best set of films nominated for Best Picture, and I voted for Scorsese because I think War Horse really brings Spielberg’s nominated films down. Then when I saw it was about which director has the greatest film they was nominated, I ended up going with Spielberg because of Schindler’s List. It was very difficult in trying to decide because so many on both lists could qualify as the greatest to me depending on my mood at that time.

I thought the same thing, in which case Scorsese would have won relatively easily, although I like War Horse more then most, but Schindler's List is such a crowning achievement of powerful cinema, that it would be hard for me not to pick as the best of either of the filmmakers.

Schindler's List is an emotive and powerful film, but I'd honestly probably not recommend it for repeat viewings. It's the type of film meant to leave an impact on you (and it does), but I don't find it entertaining. Just depressing. It's exceptionally executed, but for that reason, it's not a film I revisit.
It's great as an important history lesson, and I'd recommend everybody see it at least once, but it's not one of those "classics" I feel drawn to again and again. There are films about tragic periods in history that act both as neccesary history lessons and also work as rewatchable pieces of entertainment. Something like Glory falls into that category for me.

Taxi Driver .....the film that spoke to its time more than any other by either man ........not historical or a bio-pic or a genre piece tied down by mere facts and evoking them ........it's an "original film" in ways that aren't just singular between them but ever among anyone.
Released 1976 it LOOKS (and feels) like 1976 which is a very big deal - the best movies often capture their current time in ideas otherwise you're responding to mere craft.......Taxi Driver does it, has a ton of current ideas in it and it's the best script either man ever shot .......

Scorsese for Taxi Driver, but neither of them had their best couple of films nominated.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Lincoln 3. Saving Private Ryan 4. Gangs of New York 5. Jaws
So it's not only the best, but even 4 out of the 5 best for Stevie.

I prefer Marty over Spielberg and I love most of his BP nominated movies.
But the only answer here is Schindler's List...

I generally prefer Scorsese as a director, but the best nominated film out of those is definitely Schindler's List.

Martin Scorsese - Goodfellas is the best film from those groups.
Out of those films though the one I find the most rewatchable/entertaining is Raiders of the Lost Ark.
