I was watching the live broadcast with Spike and forgot that this was up for original song. Wow, what a snub. So what are some of the other biggest original snubs?

I’ll have to look over old nominations to try to jog my memory. Off the top of my head, I thought that Wiz Khalifa was snubbed for See You Again, and that would have been a better winner than Writing’s on the Wall. Also I think it sucks that Madonna has been snubbed so many times unless she only sang the song and had no part writing it. Live to Tell, Crazy for You, This Used to Be My Playground, and I’ll Remember all would have been worthy of at least a nomination. Finally how could they ever deny the brilliance of Batdance?

I have no problem with 'Under the Sea' winning but I always get shocked when I remember that the great goosebump-inducing 'Part of Your World' wasn't even nominated. What was the hard-on everyone had on 'Kiss the Girl'? Weird shit.
Of course The Boss getting snubbed for 'The Wrestler' is pure insanity.

If Fight the Power was truly eligible, then it's definitely one of the 3 worst snubs of all time regardless of category. How can they ignore Public Enemy?
Lana Del Rey - Young and Beautiful. She's more talented than anyone involved in that Luhrmann project, and obviously that song was better than the movie.

I find it a bit maddening that Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's If You Leave from Pretty in Pink was snubbed, given how relatively huge it was in 1986. Also Mein Herr from Cabaret.

I didn't know If You Leave was eligible. That's such an iconic song. I just looked what it was snubbed too. I'm not going to lie I love all of those songs except That's Life! which I don't think I've ever heard of before. Probably Glory of Love should have been dropped though because I don't remember it being a part of the film at all, although it's been ages since I've seen The Karate Kid Part II whereas I think If You Leave is more than a song that's played over the end credits. Plus, as cheesy and glorious as Glory of Love is, I'm not sure many people remember it's from The Karate Kid Part II, but most people probably still remember that If You Leave was from Pretty in Pink. Also they already have glory cheesiness with Take My Breath Away which was actually featured in Top Gun, and which more people can probably still connect to Top Gun. For 1973, I can't disagree at all with The Way We Were and Live and Let Die being nominated, and the former winning. I've never heard of those other three songs though. So yeah Mein Herr should be there I think. (I don't know if I'll ever get around to listening to those three songs. I probably should, lol. Who knows maybe I'll love them?)

Life In A Looking Glass from That's Life is pretty solid Henry Mancini song that Tony Bennett sung from a movie that nobody really saw. Blake Edwards' passion project and it was a literal independent film. I actually watched it for the first time last year on a random website. It's okay, but the Mancini tune is even more poignant when you consider he was in his sixties when he did it so it probably resonated with him a lot, although Leslie Bricusse's lyrics are a bit on the nose. Glory of Love is typical Peter Cetera cheese. I would have vastly preferred If You Leave, which was eligible. As for the 1973 songs. I actually looked them up. Love from Robin Hood is a short but sweet tune from a childhood favorite (fun fact it was in Fantastic Mr. Fox briefly), while I've never seen Cinderella Liberty, but anything done by John Williams from back then can't all be bad. However I really couldn't tell you a thing about the A Touch Of Class tune, since I've never actually seen that movie. I think Mein Herr should have replaced it.

It's also pretty weird to think that 'Earned It' was the Song nominee from "Fifty Shades of Grey" and not 'Love Me Like You Do'

I agree. I don't know how anyone can listen to Live to Tell and not think it was worthy. They hated Madonna. Period.

Pretty in Pink is one of my guilty pleasures. And that song is a good one. I don't understand why they ignore huge hits.

She's more talented than anyone involved in that Luhrmann project, and obviously that song was better than the movie. Yep, it was eligible. It was written for the movie. I watched the "Do the Right Thing" broadcast the other day and per Spike: He needed an anthem. He went to Chuck D. Chuck wanted to see the movie but Spike didn't have a cut. So Chuck wrote a song and Spike told him that it didn't work for the movie. So, Spike finally finished the movie, Chuck watched it and.... Fight the Power was it. 1989, a number... another summer.

I just figured they were ineligible. I don’t know if Would? was eligible, but that was one of my favorite grunge jams. I listened to the Singles soundtrack so much back then, and still listen to some of the songs on it whenever they come up during the shuffle.

Um, well this wasn't getting in but the songs the Germs wrote for Cruising are frightening and horrific mirrors like the film. It was an inspired choice by Friedkin tbh.
All he sees are death masked stars The lion's world is cold and sharp All he wants is much too far So he stalks the roads of token cars- He snarls at winds that mean no harm And takes the thorns in perfect form A broken ideal rides inside the torture Lion's denim hide
I want the lion's share Gather up the broken chairs Feed my mind unholy tests Do me in I need to rest
He sleeps when nothing's in the air Eats the scraps of some that care He strains the right to overbear Secret hidden in the lair- Pauses long enough to dream Nightmares push the glowing scream His shadowed eyes show the toll Something only lions know
