That was tough to put in the subject line, but which actors have shared the screen with the most Oscar winning performances? Not just been in the same movie, but shared the screen. I re-watched Network the other night where William Holden is the only actor to share the screen with all three acting winners... which inspired this question.
Holden also has Guinness in The Bridge on the River Kwai.
- Robert Duvall with six came to mind since he's also in Network:
Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mockingbird) John Wayne (True Grit) Marlon Brando (The Godfather) Faye Dunaway & Peter Finch (Network) Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
- De Niro's got four (Walken, Pesci, Lawrence, Phoenix)
James Stewart's got the following, just off the top of my head:
Janet Gaynor (Small Town Girl) Joan Crawford (The Gorgeous Hussy) Gale Sondergaard (Seventh Heaven) Lionel Barrymore (Navy Blue and Gold/You Can't Take It With You / ]It's A Wonderful Life) Ginger Rogers (The Vivacious Lady) Walter Huston (Of Human Hearts) Claudette Colbert (It's A Wonderful World) Jane Wyman (Magic Town) Katharine Hepburn (The Philadelphia Story) Donna Reed (It's A Wonderful Life) Thomas Mitchell (It's A Wonderful Life) Joan Fontaine (You Gotta Stay Happy) Spencer Tracy (Malaya) Shelley Winters (Winchester '73) Josephine Hull (Harvey) Charlton Heston (The Greatest Show on Earth) Grace Kelly (Rear Window) Donald Crisp (The Man From Laramie) Walter Brennan (The Far Country / How the West Was Won George C. Scott (Anatomy of a Murder) Shirley Jones (Two Rode Together) John Wayne (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance / The Shootist) Lee Marvin (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) Karl Malden (How the West Was Won) Peter Finch (The Flight of the Phoenix) Richard Attenborough (The Flight of the Phoenix) *technically not an Oscar-winning actor, but he is an Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine (The Flight of the Phoenix) George Kennedy (The Flight of the Phoenix / Bandolero! / Fools' Parade) Ben Johnson (The Rare Breed) Henry Fonda (Firecreek) Anne Baxter (Fools' Parade)
I can't remember if he interacts with Jack Lemmon, Lee Grant or Olivia de Havilland in Airport '77.
Oh wait, I thought this meant Oscar winners, not winning performances. Carry on.
