I'll go Redgrave, Ullman, Rowlands.
Redgrave is a genuine acting genius - and I don't use that term a lot......... I have no problem ranking her above her great peers Smith, Dench or Jackson (fight me!).......Ullman and Rowlands are very similar - both had their career "made" by one guy, both arguably were held back by that guy too.
Voting Rowlands is to pretend a bit "what could she have done outside Cassavetes?"....but I could easily switch Rowlands with Ullman too because I'm not sure what "else" Ullman could do sometimes - I mean she can seem pretty humorless but she has too many big knockout punches to not make this top 3.
I love some actress here personally.....Wood.......Burstyn.....but this is some pretty rarefied air with "best" on that list.....

Ullmann is clearly no. 1 for me and a top five of all time actress. She's got excellent performances outside of Bergman with Emigrants/New Land and is also extremely good in Zandy's Bride even if the movie itself is not. Loren and Wood were my other votes.

Great list of actresses. I voted for Liv Ullmann, Vanessa Redgrave and Sophia Loren, but I pretty much like everyone listed. Although I'd rank the GOAT Mariko Okada above them all.

#1-3 are goddesses (a bit favoritist biased tho)
#4-12 are among GOATs, or at the least top of the game in their era. Maybe some disappeared after a while, but they were premiere talents in the actors' culture. Can have books written about them.
#13-21 I think are good, just not quite favorite - compared to the people who like some of them.
#22-27 wavers between one-hit wonders, "haven't seen enough", "haven't done enough relevant for anyone to say", or just mostly overrated
#28-30 are lol no.
1. Sophia Loren 2. Maggie Smith 3. Lee Remick 4. Natalie Wood 5. Romy Schneider 6. Monica Vitti 7. Vanessa Redgrave 8. Gena Rowlands 9. Piper Laurie 10. Glenda Jackson 11. Joanne Woodward 12. Anne Bancroft 13. Liv Ullmann 14. Dyan Cannon 15. Diane Ladd 16. Judi Dench 17. Jane Alexander 18. Shirley Knight 19. Leslie Caron 20. Elizabeth Taylor 21. Lily Tomlin 22. Jane Fonda 23. Shirley Jones 24. Ellen Burstyn 25. Norma Alejandro 26. Olympia Dukakis 27. Rita Moreno (kind of a one-hit wonder tho) 28. Debbie Reynolds 29. Julie Andrews 30. Shirley MacLaine

Gena Rowlands Shirley MacLaine Maggie Smith
That's just for today.... I feel like doing a ten-way tie. Love them just as much as Liv, Judi, Glenda, etc. Also not listed Sandy Dennis.

Gauged this based on my two favorite performances from each actress and voted for Ullman, Burstyn, and Rowlands. Would have loved to have given some love to Andrews, Taylor, and Fonda though.
