Best "Foreign Language" Film (meme category, hopefully rid of this by next year, but for now...) The nominees are - Parasite Portrait of a Lady on Fire Pain and Glory Monos Atlantics

I really don't get why there are two separate sound categories. Their differences are trivial. A big sound category that combines both would be better in my opinion. With that said the unique sound design of Bait should have been among the nominees.

The Dead Don't Die was snubbed for original song Love the Ucut Gems inclusion in score but Midsommar, The Lighthousse, In Fabric or Parasite would've been ideal over the other nominees

A shame about Les Mis. A really fantastic film in the same vein as La Haine from a debut filmmaker no less. Otherwise I'm fine with the inevitability of this lineup.

There were a lot of great non-English films in 2019, but I guess most of the best ones haven't been seen by many on here. With that said, I do consider the nominees a really good bunch.

CORRECTION: I Lost My Body has been added here as it was tied for 3rd. But yeah, we might as well make this a five-film category next time, lol.

A victim of an extremely late release, to be sure. Here's the thing: I think we really need to be much more passionate about our FYCs in the future. I totally would've backed, say, a nomination for Bait's sound design even if it's not one of my nominees because I think it's a gloriously inspired choice. I wonder if, in future, we should start threads per category that can then be collapsed into a single thread (if not straight-up scrubbed) after nominees are announced.

I still say seven films per category save for special ones like this and choreography, but yeah, minimum of five. This ain't the Makeup category at the Oscars!

I think a lot of people on this forum (NOT the majority) don't really care enough to seek out stuff they weren't going to otherwise already watch though. That's no diss, just the impression I've gotten on here. And I mean, you already only have 36 people sending ballots. So

Yeah I don't even know whose decision it was to have three-nominee categories in the first place. I'm guessing that was the format stolen from the ICCs or something?? Regardless, we could do better...

ok, a couple things: Florence Pugh playing a teenager is yikes but otherwise it's a great performance. Park So-Dam, not in my top 15 but any nomination for Parasite feels right
otherwise, PERFECT choices. ScarJo will be divisive but I think she was wonderful. One of 2019's best movie moms regardless of what you think of the movie.

Without guaranteeing everyone here has seen all the same films, you're inevitably going to run into cases where we run pretty close (80+%) with what actually was nominated. But then, that's an issue that every voting body has, be it AMARA or Academy.

I caught up on Jojo Rabbit a few days ago and didn't care for it at all, but I thought Scarlett was pretty wonderful in it.
