Would it have been a better win? She was definitely gonna win that year, it just turned out she got nominated for The Reader instead. Another question do you think she had enough votes to get double nodded for Lead Actress if the Academy permitted it? She got GG, BAFTA and SAG nod for Revolutionary Road.

Then that would have been my least favorite win ever.. in any category.

Would have made no difference, as they were the two best female performances of 2008, lead or supporting.

It would have been a much better choice than for The Reader.

Better choice than her actual win.

First: I really like her performance in The Reader. Second: But she's my actual win for Revolutionary Road that year, so yes it would have been an even better win. Easily the best in this category in the 2000s.

The problem with Revolutionary Road - a decent version of a very, very great book (like GOAT level) is that her role is expanded as an equal to Frank Wheeler by her husband (kind of a hack, AND 2 time Oscar winner!) Sam Mendes......April Wheeler is never Frank's "equal" in the book not even close - it's Frank's story - and all those changes to it (including the timeline) made the performances which are strong (DiCaprio) or better than strong (Winslet) wholly unappealing to audiences who didn't read it and have no context. Discuss (the movie) Revolutionary Road irl and look at the horrified/baffled look on peoples faces.....the book is gut-wrenching and sympathetic......the movie is horrifying and entirely unpalatable imo. The Reader at least had its emotions on a clearer to identify level (though it's lesser "acting" work) That's TWO of the greatest books of the 20th century that DiCaprio was in, that didn't work in a satisfying way and that isn't the result of HIM at all which has to be a some sort of movie record

It'd be bottom five of the category.

In that case, I think she would've won twice that year - lead for RR and supporting for The Reader. Love her but it would've been too much.

She should've won both categories that year, hands down.
