Stanwyck in The Lady Eve's a great one. Wish I had thought of that first. One of the best female comedic performances ever put to screen. She plays such a wonderful and devious "con artist".

Much different from my favorite male performances which is much more tied to who I think is best - but with females my favorites get mixed up with those I want to sleep with............or rescue ........or um.......murder for Isabelle Huppert in La Cérémonie which is both the one I think is best and my favorite however
Barbara Stanwyck in The Lady Eve
Ingrid Bergman in Gaslight Stanwyck in The Lady Eve's a great one. Wish I had thought of that first. One of the best female comedic performances ever put to screen. She plays such a wonderful and devious "con artist". Sexy as hell too ........an amazingly vibrant and full life performance from her.

I've been meaning to watch the Zulawski film for years now... love the other choices. MsMovieStar knows is all about her but let's leave some room for others:

Ellen Burstyn, Requiem For a Dream (2000) Rooney Mara, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) Mia Farrow, Rosemary's Baby (1968)
EDIT: Foster in Silence of the Lambs (1991) is eerily close.

Two just off the top of my head: And maybe the best performance I've ever seen, male or female: These are the two I mentioned yesterday. Maybe for the third place I'll go with Ellen Burstyn in Requiem For a Dream or the one in my signature, can't decide atm.

Choosing only three is almost impossible, so I selected the ones that I consider not only my favorites, but good enough to be among the best in the history of cinema. Maria Calconetti - The Passion of Joan of Arc Vivien Leigh - Gone with the wind Barbra Streisand - Funny Girl
