One of the very greats of (French) cinema. A fantastic actor, whom I always appreciated as one of the most versatile ones. Also a very prolific actor. I've seen 35 of the films he acted and that's just about 20 percent of his filmography...
Loved him especially in "Milou en mai", "Habemus Papam", "La diagonale du fou", "Mado", but he was always very good.
Requiescat in pace.

He'll always be special to me for the riotous La Grande Bouffe and Chabrol's better than people think and icily evil Wedding in Blood. RIP

Fantastic actor with a ridiculously long and varied filmography. Worth mentioning also are the 3 Buñuels he did and his leading role in The Belle Noiseuse.

RIP! He's in a lot of great, classic movies - and I think he worked with all the great French filmmakers of his time - Malle, Chabrol, Sautet, Tavernier, Godard, Melville, Varda, Renoir, Resnais, Rivette, Clouzot, Clement..... ok no Truffaut but still. Also worked with Bunuel several times, Mario Bava, Theo Angelopoulos, and, um, Hitchcock! Who else worked with Hitch and Chabrol? (Noiret, Dern, Perkins.....?) Just the other day I watched Vincent Francois Paul and the Others - there's a great little scene I love where Yves Montand asks him, his close friend, for money and Piccoli turns him down and in just a minute or so he gets across a care, shame, worry, and slight annoyance - you can read it several ways. I love his May Fools perf - how he suggests a sadness and a longing for human contact. Gotta see more.

Romy and Michel... One of my favorite actor pairings, ever. Rest in peace, prince. Please check on Romy for us.
