I feel Joel McHale would have something really funny to say about this if he wasn't you know, IN it. As for me I'm just going with "Rated R - For Roly Poly"

I feel Joel McHale would have something really funny to say about this if he wasn't you know, IN it. As for me I'm just going with "Rated R - For Roly Poly" I loved him on Community, and thought he deserved at least one Emmy nomination because the first two seasons I don't think there was that much competition in Best Actor, but I don't know if I can see him doing anything outside of his general smarmy stock character like in Community and in Blended. Kevin James looking to get his own Uncut Gems. I think James has a real everyman movie star charisma, and I do think maybe one day he could have surprised everyone by going the drama or dramedy route, but this ain't it lol. I'm sure he could fund his own dramatic projects with his earnings from King of Queens and all those comedies he's done, so I don't know maybe he was helping out a friend or maybe he wanted to see what the reaction would be if he did do something like this and the filmmakers wanted a big name. Finally besides everything else inviting mocking imo, not a fan of the name Becky just because of all the negative connotations with it on social media like Karen, Deborah, etc. Admittedly Karen is the new Becky, but I still see it mocked at times.

Love the idea of this because horror movies have primed my brain to secretly fear all prepubescent girls are capable of being bloodthirsty little monsters and I love movies about that, but the execution here just looks really cringey. This looks like Home Alone with gore and Nazis. If that girl isn't a deranged serial killer in training, I'm not interested. tbh i'm more excited for the Orphan prequel

Not gonna lie, Kevin James looks the part...
But I'm definitely skipping this one.

66% RT - huh? I thought this would be down in the single digits. Mick LaSalle highly praises Lulu Wilson - young actress but seems to thrive in this genre - she's very good in Ouija Origin of Evil, and she's alright in Annabelle Creation and Haunting of Hill House...

Wow!!! I thought it would be in the single digits too. If it stays fresh, it will be the fifth movie of James's that is fresh. It's the start of the Jamesaissance(sp?) lol. Not gonna lie, Kevin James looks the part... But I'm definitely skipping this one. Kinda irrelevant but I heard something about someone telling Kevin James that if he loses weight, he loses roles. I could see that because it's a part of his appeal as an everyman. Plus, I can't imagine how he'd look if he lost weight even when I looked up pictures of him to see if he was skinny when he was young, the only ones that I saw were of him still being beefy, albeit in shape, from his high school yearbook. I guess maybe he could pull a Michael Chiklis in The Shield someday, although maybe Here Comes the Boom sort of was his Chiklis moment? Also even Chiklis ended up pretty much with the same shape later albeit probably a little bigger.

I watched it over the weekend. Nothing to write home about but it has its moments. Very Home Alone at times and surprisingly gory. Wilson has been a lot better elsewhere and James is really trying but doesn't have much to work with.

5+/10This is a verrrry strange film/gore-fest with some awful plot dynamics ...... But .............Lulu Wilson should be snapped up by Blumhouse for a 5 pic deal right now and have a whole series of horrors built around her like she's some sort of new brand of a bubblegum version of Molly Ringwald/teen Jamie Lee Curtis and some roles where she's a villain not just a heroine too. She could play a killer or a final girl with no sweat......... and it's not because she was particularly great here (she's not) but she can do wide-eyed horror face and creeping "what's happening to me? I kinda like the evil" ................make it happen.

Standard and dull, with laughably bad acting from Wilson. I could have gone for this being a lot more self-aware and just playing as GORY HOME ALONE!!! instead of something trying to be kind of serious. I mean, just imagining the Wet Bandits as the bad guys makes this so much more fun than the rote "bad guy Nazi" that James is stuck with. It's all too po-faced and too stupid at once.
The other option it could have gone with is to really lean into Becky's evil killer streak and let her enjoy herself a little bit. It sort of does that, but keeps pulling back from committing. Every time it gets really interesting with Becky slaughtering a guy, we then have to see Becky crying afterwards. More improvised flamethrowers and taunting bad guys, less crying about your dead mom and going catatonic after a kill.
James is quite good, considering what he's stuck with. Making him a Nazi is stupid since it has zero bearing on the plot, but Nazis are bad so who am I to say otherwise. It makes for such a lazy characterization, though. They tried to make him persuasive and smart like Patrick Stewart in Green Room, but Darcy is scary because he's just a normal guy who happens to be a Nazi, not a Nazi who happens to be played by a "normal guy" like Kevin James.
Whatever, it's mildly diverting if you're into this kind of thing. I'm not especially, but I didn't hate it.
