63 today........an all-time GOAT level actor.......in the top 10 for English speaking film actors ever imo at least and maybe higher than that ....many would stake that claim.

For me, it's undeniable. He is the greatest there has ever been. Not only that, but he heeded the words of the Gambler and knew when to fold 'em. Nothing beats a great swan song, and he's (so far) got one of the best any actor could ask for.

Happy bday to both of them. Two of my all time favs. DDL is nothing less of a legend and Pfeiffer is one of the best actresses of her era.

Btw, am I the only one who believes the best performance of DDL's legendary career was in In the Name of the Father??
Yeah, probably...

I honestly think this is the first year I realized that Nicholson, Pacino, and Day-Lewis have birthdays within a week of each other ... astrologists must be all over that ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEGEND Was planning on watching TWBB tonight in his honor ... as if I need an excuse to watch it again.

I think ITNOTF is one of Daniel Day-Lewis's top three performances, sometimes it even alienates between that and Phantom Thread as my favorite, which is saying a lot. He feels vulnerable and defeated in that film, that it's just spectacular to watch.

Btw, am I the only one who believes the best performance of DDL's legendary career was in In the Name of the Father?? Yeah, probably... I rank it 3rd behind TWBB and Phantom Thread ........this part in his rant to Postlethwaite where he starts talking gibberish like a madman - "the same lies I've been telling all my life".....and..."words don't mean anything"..........is the greatest scene and the greatest choice within a scene that he ever did. I gently make fun of him sometimes for playing it safe or getting too much praise - but this scene and this choice within the scene is among the riskiest choices of any big time actor ever and you can't praise it enough: ~3:50......

How could you, Winona?! SHE NEVER ASKED, GOD DAMN IT! His "she never asked me" at the end of that movie is one of those line deliveries that sticks with me. I can hear it exactly in his voice when I read it. So sad.

Celebrated the occasion by re-watching There Will Be Blood for the first time since I saw it in theaters in early 2008.
Strong performance and film imo.

DDL and his son - here's how he looks these days. He hasn't abandoned his boy!

One of the things I wanted to mention about DDL that never comes up is his unique historical importance as an actor - prior to DDL you would never have a real discussion of UK actor vs. US actor in quite the way we do now.
It was far easier to say "oh Peter O'Toole is great and Jack Nicholson is great" and see them as separate and distinct ....... the fact that Day-Lewis played Americans in American films to such an extent (2 Best Actor wins, one for a US bio) that changed that whole dynamic. It existed before him - Hopkins certainly - but not in the same way as it does after him.
Clearly two of the things that make the DDL "GOAT" argument work in his favor are this importance and his consistency/filmography though I could argue his consistency against him too - but his importance I don't think can be legitimately argued...
