we're holding a one-time vote for McKenzie. I didn't imagine anyone would put her in lead but apparently some people are, so feel free to voice your thoughts and vote so we can get on the same page there. Do people really think she's lead? Is that you stephen?

ok, we could draw this out but the people have spoken. Thomasin McKenzie is supporting in Jojo Rabbit.

I certainly didn't vote her lead. She's supporting. It's not her story.

I am baffled that you guys think she's supporting when people with less POV in the plot have been deemed lead. Can I change my ballots for the AMARA's since I'm in the minority here?

She has her one scene with Johansson, and arguably her final scene, every other scene she is seen through Jojo's eyes.

How is, per example, Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse more of a lead? He's always seen through Pattinson's eyes, as an object to antagonize him. Or Craig in Knives Out, who is nothing more than a fun plot device, has no character arc and is, besides his role as detective, emotionally removed from the plot? McKenzie isn't the biggest POV character in the story (that is primarily about Jojo, yes), but her emotions and personal motivations move the plot and dictate the tone just as much as Jojo's. If she's not a lead character, then so aren't roles like Jennifer Lawrence's in SLP or Brie Larson's in Room.

If she's not a lead character, then so aren't roles like Jennifer Lawrence's in SLP or Brie Larson's in Room. Well Dafoe is the other character in a two character piece. He doesn't have perspective, but almost everything that transpires in the film involves him in some way. Craig is lead in the same way any detective character is in a mystery of this ilk (e.g. Peter Ustinov in Death on the Nile) in that it isn't his story, but the story of the film is about him solving the case (although I'll grant he's on the border anyways). In both though I'd say a leading character does not need to have a personal arc to be lead, often they do, but not always.
I would disagree on McKenzie's character, whose actions in the film only are viewed in the way they effect Jojo throughout the film. This as even in her only scene without Jojo, the discussion is about Jojo. I would agree though that Lawrence is supporting in SLP. Larson is on the border, as again the first half of the film is a two character piece, but there's an argument to be made either way.
