Stupid humor is definitely not for everyone, but sometimes even some of the funniest movies get absolutely slaughtered by critics and much of the general public. What are some stupid comedies that have pretty bad ratings by critics and audiences that you think are hilarious?

That movie that boasts a cast with Harry Dean Stanton, Rip Torn, Bruce Dern and William H. Macy.
And Kelsey Grammer as a man with a tattoo on his dick.
It's very nearly the funniest movie ever made.

I only saw Down Periscope the one time when it came out and I don't remember it at all. Gonna add this to my list now and give it a rewatch.

Cabin Boy's a good one for me. What can I say? I really enjoy Chris Elliott's idiosyncratic weird style, and this is basically the only time he ever got to play the lead role in a feature film.

I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if I hadn't been a big fan of Get a Life. I remember finally watching it because someone on AOL message boards kept talking about it especially when Magnolia came out. (Yes I am very old.) I thought that Melora Walters would get a big career bump after that, but unfortunately she didn't.

I'd rather watch Tommy Boy than the 1980s classic comedies starring other SNL alumni.

Also, I think Without A Paddle is genius. The scene where they christen the canoe is one of my favorite moments in comedic cinema.

I thought that Melora Walters would get a big career bump after that, but unfortunately she didn't. I'm the same way. I grew to appreciate Chris Elliott's comedy through Get A Life. Given that Cabin Boy was a collaboration between him and Life's co-creator Adam Resnick, it shares a lot of the same sort of ticks as that program. In some ways you could even call it a semi Get A Life episode stretched to feature length, right down to including Brian Doyle Murray as one of the crew members on the The Filthy Whore (love that name ). I also love David Letterman's cameo in the film, and subsequent frequent mocking of said appearance, especially when he hosted the Oscars. Melora Walters was so hot in that film. Her role, like the rest of the movie was incredibly strange, but I really got used to it. It's odd how Hollywood never tried to do anything with her, but I guess she does come off kinda strange. At least she's found her footing as a sorta character actress, especially in PTA's earlier films (surprised they haven't collaborated recently).

Beer (1985) - David Alan Grier is laugh out loud hilarious here, with supp cast Rip Torn, Loretta Swit, Dick Shawn. It's 5.3 on IMDb and 40% RT, I don't even think it screened for critics, I can only find a Leonard Maltin snippet and he calls it "unimaginative and tasteless." Been a year since I've seen it and still think about it , especially during beer commercials.

When my buddy and I went to see "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" in theatres we cried from laughter, especially during the cat scene. Granted, we were both 13 but still!

Jon Lovitz was robbed of an Oscar nod. That Klaus Barbie scene is gold.

While it didn't get horrible reviews, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" surely deserved to be raved! That shit will never cease to be hilarious. Also from 2001 I quite like Reitman's "Evolution". I must say that the love for both of these comes from childhood. And from the hilarious Russian dubbing of both. They're just not the same in their original language for me

This Is the End is another one of my favorites (albeit, also with decent reviews).
The Sandlot is shockingly low-rated, as is Three Amigos

But I’ll throw Dirty Work out there.

I like 90s Adam Sandler. The Waterboy is especially funny, and may be my favorite movie of the year.
