Did anyone catch this Netflix original?
Overall I liked it but it buckles under the weight of too many story contrivances (especially towards the end), and the screenplay feels quite thin on the character development front. The first episode is riveting as it shows the increasing toll that Etsy's protocol-oppressed environment begins to take on her identity, and also as it follows her through the the sink-or-swim situations she's thrust into upon arriving in Berlin. However, the story goes down a very familiar path after that. A lot of the secondary characters never transcend their basic outlines, with the exception of Yanky who eventually emerges as one of the most sympathetic figures. On a brighter note, the acting overall is solid, and the attention to detail with respect to the Satmar community's customs is also very impressive.
Anyways, I'd give it like a 7-7.5 overall. Worth a go during these housebound times.

Quite rushed and extremely unbelievable at times once she reached Berlin, but as you said, the housebound and flashback scenes are quite something. Very strong performances but it felt rushed and had a really open ending.
