Looks much better than expected. Getting Ordinary People meets Prisoners vibes. My only issue with this, like a lot of tv series right now, is this should be a movie rather than 8 episodes...

I'll wait for reviews. It's nice Evans is beginning to branch out, but I'm still not convinced he's a good actor.

Started watching this. 2 episodes in. Simple but neat so far. Evans, Dockery and Martell would make a good real life family.
I'm pretty impressed with Apple's streaming quality.

Does media in the US wait outside the accused's house like they show in movies and tv shows?

Finished it. Packed a punch with some last minute revelations. The family dynamic, the conflicted emotions, the ordeal they went through were vividly portrayed. Still processing that ambiguous ending. Evans, Martell, Simmons all did a good job but Dockery's MVP to me.

Drawn out, but still pretty watchable from start to finish. Evans is pretty good in the final 3 episodes, but Dockery's MVP. And J.K. Simmons really came out of nowhere and almost stole the whole series. And I thought Daniel Henshall was very convincing... seemed like he could've been a performance on Mindhunter. And I want Cherry Jones to be my lawyer. Morten Tyldum didn't bring much to the table considering he directed the whole thing... maybe a few strong scenes (Laurie followed on her run)... and that color palette was dull af. Now onto the spoilers: The framing device kind of sucked.... and the ending sucked even more. They both should have died in the crash (certainly looked like they would've), or if not.... it should've ended with all three Barbers in the car on their way home from the hospital... with the mother thinking her son's a murderer, and the son thinking his mother tried to kill him.
Also, Jacob is definitely guilty... right? soft 7/10

Well paced and acted for the most part, and while I’m glad it wasn’t throwing red herrings and major cliff hangers left and right, it didn’t entice all that much. It was an effective downer and the color scheme on some of the outdoor shots was nearly black and white which was an interesting choice. Dockery was MVP with the diner scene being a standout, as well as her reaction to the short story in episode 7 being a real gut punch. Confidently and competently made, and while an attorney having the shoe on the other foot makes for an intriguing idea, I wish this was grounded in a bit more realism. Solid stuff over all, but kind of forgettable.

I'm 90% certain that Jacob did it,but I wouldn't rule out that girl Sarah either. She had a motive too and she was quick to believe and befriend Jacob after he was accused.Maybe she felt guilty that he was getting the blame?.

Solidly made, 6.5 or 7/10, but really unremarkable. Tyldum might be better fit for rapid, fun stuff like his Headhunters. At this dour lengthiness, we need more detail…. It’s several episodes before we get something like a quick shot of the wife’s iPhone calendar, a reminder of everything she’s missing. Stuff like that. Like how the crowbar in the trunk takes you to another scene and a whole realization, that’s a big one but what about smaller textured asides and connections? They mention the 'Young Girl / Old Lady' optical image, and that idea of appearing one way or another is here but not fully. “Tell your face” (to look the way you say you feel) is a repeated line, how the family is told to show zero emotion in front of the cameras, etc. Also the dangerous side of technology that feeds cruel impulses. As for the acting, ehhhh. Main cast is okay but not very convincing (Evans plays another superhero, Dockery squirms for seven hours). Jaeden Martell gets across the general grudge of teens. I was more impressed with the smaller parts - JK Simmons, Patrick Fischler, Betty Gabriel (the “Nononono” actress from Get Out - I’d watch a spin off show of Detective Duffy). Also, shout out to Therese Plaehn in E4 a small mother part (“He grabbed him in the library” “He grabbed him in the BALLS”) she’s the first person in the show who seems like they might actually exist…. Who’s the murderer?? I think it could be Jacob but I also wanna believe anyone who likes Step Brothers, Airplane, and Borat has the good taste not to murder! I really think it still might be Patz. Just bc he was force-confessed at gunpoint doesn’t mean he didn’t do it. (At one point was thinking Jacob had witnessed Patz do the murder, and that admitting it would be admitting that side of him that gets a thrill of it). What about dumbass Derek…..

Way late to the party. Just finished this watching. It was a solid watch. Not great, but it does stick with you. The cast was good. It flowed at a good pace and leaves with something to think about. Ranking the cast would be Dockery (masterful performance), Simmons (powerful with very limited screen time), Martell (captures the ambiguity of the character quite well), and then Evans. My thoughts on what happened. I don't think the creators of the series gave enough information for a conviction. Yes, there were signs of an obvious guilty party. You had the knife. You had the fantasy killing tendencies. You had the inconsistent story about seeing the body on the ground. But on the other hand, you only had ONE fingerprint on the body from Jacob -- consistent with his story. He didn't have the so-called "murder gene". If Jacob did it, where is the blood? I believe Jacob encountered Ben on the way to school. In other words, are we really to believe Jacob killed him cleanly and went to school looking perfectly normal? We really need more information, especially since Patz and Derek are plausible alternatives. For the series to have the Hope live rather than pass away, gives more credibility toward Jacob.
The point of the series is about guilty and the what happens when we see ambiguity in our lives. The real "killers" in the show was Andy and Laurie. That was the point. Their behavior created the conflicts.
