Sin City
I watched what I assume is the extended cut as that's the only one I could find for free streaming. This boasts some of the best things the mid-2000s had to offer: stylized green screen visuals (don't forget Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow come 2004!), Clive Owen, Josh Hartnett (why did an actor this magnetic have his career stall out?), Elijah Wood being creepy, outlandish character designs, Bruce Willis in a role that he doesn't have to give a crap about and it will still work...
Unfortunately, it is also sordid and sexist and I didn't enjoy myself at all. That's not true, the whole Clive Owen segment is actually pretty aces, balancing dark humor with blood and guts expertly. Jackie Boy taunting Dwight was a lot of fun, so I did enjoy myself, whaddya know.
But that is also the only part of the movie that doesn't feel like sexist, male-gaze trash. I'm not one to complain about such things, but DANG. I understand why people would like this, and I admire the craft on display. But I don't want to be a part of it.
Unless Clive Owen and Benicio del Toro are on screen bickering with each other. I'll take as much of that as you're willing to give.

Oh, and now I learn that the Tarantino directed scene in Sin City is the best one of the bunch. Shoulda known.
