The modern take of the recent Dracula tv series was not very successful, though.

Karyn Kusama gives me a lot of pause. I haaaaaaaaaaaated The Invitation, and while I liked Destroyer fine for what it was, her direction didn't really stand out.
Still, I'm intrigued.

Karyn Kusama is a brutal filmmaker - The Invitation was awful and Destroyer is my test case for films not working in design in recent years - it's a shockingly bad film in conception and execution. That in and of itself isn't THAT big of a deal - but it's also so insanely serious and ponderous - like the most uncomfortable handjob ever - which besides being metaphorical is also an actual scene in that mess.
This might give you some idea of what she'll do with Dracula - if you can assume she could actually make a horror as good as Argento once did instead of just spewing banalities about someone else's film - which she does all the time.
