I don't know if this is the right place to ask for recommendations, but I would like to watch some psychological thrillers, suspense, noir, etc. with good performances, no matter what type it is. Here are some of my favorite performances in films of this genre: Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl Sharon Stone - Basic Instinct Glenn Close - Fatal Attraction Jake Gyllenhaal - Nightcrawler Naomi Watts - Mulholand Drive Choi Min-sik - I Saw the Devil / Oldboy Noomi Rapace / Rooney Mara - The girl with the dragon tatto Isabelle Ajdani - Possession Hye-ja KIM - Mother Ellen Burstyn - Requiem for a dream Tilda Swinton - We need to talk about Kevin Gene Hackman - The Conversation All of these performances are very popular so I would like recommendations from lesser known ones.

I thought you were trashing the performance and was about to bitchslap you. But in my defense... 1917 would've been a much better movie if it starred Thomas Jane's character from 1922.

Here's one! Keoghan is rightfully seen as Sacred Deer's MVP but Farrell is crazy underrated. Every mention of Keoghan requires at least a footnote to acknowledge how seamlessly Farrell fits into Lanthimos's deadpan. He was brilliant here--hilarious, indifferent and then desperate as he sees his family infiltrated by this parasitic presence. Sacred Deer is one of the best examples of a film towing the line between terrifying and hilarious and you can read most of its scenes as both at the same time. Farrell nailed that balancing act in Lobster and continued it in Sacred Deer. I love his discomfort when Martin asks to see his chest hair, I love how he impatiently tries to get his son to walk and just plops him on the floor, and I love how he blows up at Nicole Kidman and renders their supernatural problem in delightfully stupid language (something about the pubes of a virgin lmao). Farrell nailed it. Doesn't get enough credit.

James Spader / Madchen Amick in Dream Lover (1993) Saw this a few moths back and couldn't turn it off. Really good performances.

I will second many performances that have been already mentioned (John Heard, Jason Patric, Linda Fiorentino, Richard Attenborough, Audrey Hepburn, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett) and add one that I saw for the first time a few months ago: Essie Davis in The Babadook. She is outstanding throughout but I especially loved her work in the first part of the film, when her character struggles to hide her frustration and anger and Davis conveys those feelings just with a quick glance or a slightly annoyed delivery. A few of others that came to mind: Miranda Richardson in Spider
Elizabeth Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene Tim Robbins and Pruitt Taylor Vince in Jacob's Ladder.

The 2 sad and forgotten of today polls in The Manchurian Candidate. And we can add Liev Schreiber who to some is even the MVP against the 2 giants. AND of course I have to mention the OG, Angela Lansbury.

AND of course I have to mention the OG, Angela Lansbury. Too bad the late, great Jonathan Demme couldn't craft a scene where Washington and Streep actually shared a scene together more than 5 seconds where they actually exchanged dialogue at each other...smh. What a greatly missed opportunity, and who knows if they'll ever work together again.

One of the best of this genre by the master of this genre 1992's Betty by the great Claude Chabrol: The unforgettable Marie Trintignant and also the supporting Stephane Audran - a Chabrol classic.

I won't lie I was disappointed when I left the movie theater at that time, a missed opportunity as you say. Will they have another chance ? Let's see...Viola Davis in 2016, Frances McDormand in 2021...normally to complete the trio of arguably the most respected American actresses of right now, the Queen should be the next...with Julia as an appetizer just before Glenn Close would be welcomed too. Time will tell.
