This whole announcement was just a bizarre event. The only purpose was for the films to be able to use the offical selection stamp in the publicity and Frémaux basically just send the rest of the selection to different festivals... oh well

The only purpose was for the films to be able to use the offical selection stamp in the publicity and Frémaux basically just send the rest of the selection to different festivals... oh well There was talk of Cannes and Venice joining together this year, but with the bad blood between them, I'm not surprised that it didn't pan out. Also I'm not sure how the logistics of awards would have worked out in that scenario either, if they did try a joint festival and still gave out both awards. Anyhow I really can't blame films for ditching Cannes this year and waiting until next year, or deciding to go with Venice instead since I'm not sure the Official Stamp will mean much especially with what I've read with a few of the films that were selected. (No scoop on the big names, but small of the smaller films sound like duds from what I've read.) Finally, I know he's not really well liked here, but if this was what the lineup mostly would have been if the pandemic hadn't happened, I feel that Annette would have definitely won something big, and now I'm sad that it won't. I read from Sparks that it will likely go to Venice, so I'm hoping they know more about it than Variety that says that it's rumored that it's going to sit it out until next year's Cannes.

I actually had to look up what you were talking about when you said " Annette", because a few things were running through my head. I had no idea that Leos Carax did a musical with Adam Driver, I must have not been paying attention. I've been watching the Venice Film Festival online for the past few days off and on, and I'm really curious to see how Cannes approaches presenting the main films. Obviously there's going to be a lot more restrictions this time around, but I'm a bit worried that all the smaller films will be harder to see now or they'll just be pushed aside, considering the circumstances. Gonna be daunting nonetheless.

Does Frémaux not know how to set up a Zoom meeting?

Does Frémaux not know how to set up a Zoom meeting? Obviously I didn't get the full experience watching Parasite at home, because I didn't have a theater full of people on their phones to experience it with.

The Summer of 85 by François Ozon - teaser: Opts for The Cure and 80s synth-pop instead of you know, the Minutemen.... pacinoyes feels this was a big missed musical opportunity but it may just be a French thing
