Based on Denis Johnson's acclaimed novel about an anonymous American woman whose mission in Central America is as shadowy as her surroundings, and who winds up in increasingly sinister plots of intrigue and deception.
I've not read the novel yet (Denis Johnson is one major literary figure I've yet to tackle), but I'm intrigued by this.

Is Denis going to do a movie more than 80 people on earth care about, or what? It's parodic at this point. Film Comment and Reverse Shot act like she's the greatest living filmmaker, she keeps making Jonathan Glazer-esque nonsense, and more praise ensues. I don't get it, and I'm tired of it. Learn storytelling or be forgotten outside of this trendy "contemplative cinema" era.

Fuck yesssss. Not at all familiar with the novel, may have to check it out now, but any news of a new Denis project is a great thing.

Didn't need to read the rest, was already in. Pattinson's involvement is great news too.

Learn storytelling or be forgotten outside of this trendy "contemplative cinema" era. You do realize "trendy contemplative cinema" has been around for roughly the last 60 years, right?

somehow missed the original post. this plot synopsis sounds amazing and so incredibly in my wheelhouse and then add Claire Denis and now I have to make sure I avoid accidents and live long enough for this to appear in front of my eyes

I'm not even trying to troll. What I've seen of Denis has me annoyed beyond belief. Fake intellectual nonsense! Pisses me off more than any other species of film. She's like the French writers under the already fraudulent existentialists. Marie Antoinette by Coppola is far more daring and accomplished than ANYTHING I've seen this charlatan do.

I was just wondering earlier today whether this was still happening or not. Not a huge fan of Qualley, but I'll always be there for Denis.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was her first choice for the lead in High Life, so I guess this is a logical next step.

Benny Safdie has such a rich filmography as an actor. Very impressive.
Always here for King John C. Reilly too. Another actor who’s worked with some great directors. (PTA, Lanthimos, Ramsay, Malick, De Palma, Scorsese, Altman and Audiard)
