Ratings for every live award show continue to drop. The Oscars are the still the most watched event besides the NFL/Superbowl. Streaming plays a big part and they need to find a way to include these viewers in their total numbers. Still, they need to play more to their core audience. Does anyone care that Eminem sang a song from 18 years ago? If they were trying to bring in viewers, why wouldn't they promote it? Performing the Original Songs live is typically a bust unless everyone knows the songs - like Shallow or Let it Go. It's become too much like the Grammy's with all these performances. Air the Oscar Nominations in prime time, celebrate the year in film, and promote the show. People obviously care considering Lose Yourself went #1 on the iTunes Charts almost instantly after the ceremony. The problem is, like you said, they didn't promote his appearance at all.

Many probably stopped watching after Monae's performed cringe. Anyway I'm not surprised at all. This year's show is awful. The jokes were painfully unfunny (except Olivia Colman's) and no one wants to listen to lectures on the environment by privileged millionaires or virtue signals about female representation when none of them meant it for the 45025210568508419th time.

Do you guys think it's because of the Oscars (like most of those big Award Shows) becoming a little bit too political nowadays? Not that I am particularly complaining but it's kind of true. Yes People hate being lectured by rich elites

You also have to consider that, thanks to Internet/social media, your TV isn't the only place to see movie stars mingling and interacting with each other. The mystique is gone.
Incidentally, when did the Oscars get so second-rate? Back in the day (but not that long ago), the ceremony was reserved for movie stars and other A-listers. These days, they seem to let any old riff-raff in.
