Extremely weak for Birds, I guess Suicide Squad really turned people off. At least it didn't cost too much.

That's really bad for Birds of Prey. Opening weekend will be lower than Joker's opening day, I fear. Also, it's kinda amazing that The Turning hasn't completely collapsed yet.

I predicted BoP would open at around $45-50M and I was kind of low balling, thinking it would open much higher. This is a disastrous start for a comic book movie.

That opening is beyond awful. Never thought that it'll open at nearly half of Bad Boys 3, yet here we are. Literally the only silver lining it has is that it didn't cost much and it has good reviews.
Obnoxious filmbros and incels are gonna have a field day.

Obnoxious filmbros and incels are gonna have a field day. After watching it, I think WB really should have made it PG-13 so that young girls would be able to see it because it has that Hot Topic appeal that many of them like. Plus, I felt that most of the violence was cartoonish anyway that they could have easily gone PG-13 without sacrificing anything.

I agree aside from the language and maybe the hyper kinetic action, it didn't feel that R to me. That being said, I doubt the R rating was sorely the reason it failed. Logan, Joker, and Deadpool did just fine with that rating. Maybe there truly was just a huge lack of interest for it, which can be blamed a lot on WB's marketing.

Birds of Prey had disaster written all over it. It seems like most fans of the DCEU are Snyder fans who like their superhero movies grim, gritty, and pretentious (hence Joker's massive success) so they probably saw this as a "woke"-ifying of their franchise. Everyone else with brain cells would never give anything related to Suicide Squad his/her hard-earned money. Also it looks painfully terrible. Also, Harley Quinn mainly appeals to young mall-goth girls who wouldn't have gotten into an R-rated film anyway. So basically, it's a movie for no one except the usual batch of critics who think, "Well, I guess it wasn't unwatchable, and it has a somewhat girl-power-y message, so fuck it: 6.5 out of 10 and a Fresh on RT." Hopefully this'll be the nail in the coffin of the DCEU. Bring on the Matt Reeves Batman.

Seems to me, to be more of a case of lack of interest / Suicide Squad turning people off.

Good point. Didn't see either of those and often forget they're part of the DCEU.

No China release is bad luck but there were so many mistakes here. Should have had Harley Quinn's name prominent in the title and making a movie that panders so much to the "YAS QUEEN" teenage girl demographic R rated just isn't a smart move. Will Smith and the first Joker since Ledger probably drew a lot of people into Suicide Squad which is why it made the money it did. This doesn't have either of these things, Robbie can't really open a movie, and Harley Quinn is a much more obscure character, let alone the Birds of Prey who they actually named the movie after. Also surprised this cost like 100 mil. Giving it more of a medium budget like Joker had would have been a better move.

Also love that Little Women has been outgrossing Star Wars the past few weeks. ROS had no legs.
