I know most people disagree, but I loved the format of the 2009 ceremony, with all the previous Oscar winners speaking about the acting nominees and such. I also think Jackman is the best host I've ever seen of the Oscars. The whole show balanced a classy glam with entertainment so well.

I actually think 2017 is my favorite ceremony. Most of my favorites won and there were only two unpleasant surprises (Hacksaw for film editing and Suicide Squad for makeup). The BP announcement was weird and frustrating, but I really liked Moonlight so I'm happy for its win. Plus Jimmy Fallon killed it as host. I really hope they bring him back.

Favorite moment was Brie winning in 2016 but this year's was the best overall. Thoroughly entertaining and Kimmel did a fab job.

I loved when Steve Martin hosted it the first time. By that time I was tired of Billy Crystal's shtick, and felt that he even seemed over the whole thing, so it was so refreshing to have new blood and have someone who was funny and seemed excited to be there. I thought he did a great job the second time he hosted as well.
I thought that Jon Stewart did well both times he hosted, but I preferred the second time to his first. I also thought Ellen did a much better and memorable job the second time that she hosted.
I liked Hugh Jackman's ceremony too except for the musical thing that they did. I understand showcasing to Jackman's strengths as a host, but by that time in the ceremony, I think people just want to get on with it. Plus, it seemed like they were kissing ass to Beyonce more than anything.
Chris Rock was hilarious the first time that he hosted, and that would have been an all time classic, but iirc because of Don Cheadle being nominated and his quip about snatching the Oscar if they made the nominees from his category go on stage since that was the terrible year that they really tried to marginalize the "lesser" awards by handing them out in the audience and other such nonsense. I thought he was terrible the second time, relied too much on what he did the first time.
Seth MacFarlane started out funny, but he really lost steam early on.
Jimmy Kimmel did a nice job as well; although, the Matt Damon shtick was walking a fine line there after awhile. I find their "feud" hilarious, but I think he might have relied too much on it at the Oscars. Plus, he did a great job of trying to get things back in order when Faye Dunaway read the wrong name for Best Picture. I shudder to think what James Franco/Anne Hathaway or Neil Patrick Harris would have done if it would have happened during their years. Franco probably would have left poor Hathaway high and dry like he did during most of the ceremony, and she probably would have had a breakdown about why did this happen during the year that she co-hosts the Oscars. (On second thought, maybe it would have been worth it to see what kind of meltdown she would have had.) NPH would have probably went into a fit of rage that the mixup ruined his whole "box" gimmicks which was one of the dumbest things that I've watched at the Oscars, and I'm hold enough to remember when Rob Lowe sang with "Snow White".

Yeah, ever since I started watching it in like 05 or 06, I think this year's ceremony was my favorite. It was still too damn long, but Kimmel was a great host, there were a ton of great moments and surprises, and it had probably the best twist ending in history.
