The marketing for The Rhythm Section has been awful. Most people don't know this film even exists.A potential $17M third week for Bad Boys is fantastic though.

It doesn't help that the movie is really bad either imo. I thought going in with low expectations that I might end up liking it, but it's just really boring except for a few scenes. Also it feels like the studio must have done a lot of editing to it because there's a lot of plot holes that are never explained and a lot of jumping around in the story, and the big twist doesn't make any sense either.

I'm hoping that Gretel & Hansel is really good. Releasing a fairy tale themed horror movie on superbowl weekend is pretty much the ultimate dumping ground, but the trailer was *fantastic* and looks like my cup of tea.

The unfortunate thing about Rhythm Section bombing, quality aside, is that it continues Paramount's losing strike. They haven't had a 100m+ hit since Bumblebee. While they've mostly been chugging out a lot of mediocre / poorly received films, and got typical results, it's still sad and depressing to see such a major studio struggling, especially since Disney is dominating everything.

Terrible for The Rhythm Section. At least Gretel & Hansel seems to have been made on a dirt cheap budget. Great holds for most of the holdovers, though. If 1917 wins, it'll be the highest grossing best picture winner since Return of The King. www.the-numbers.com/daily-box-office-chart1 (1) Bad Boys For Life Sony Pictures $5,185,000 +163% -42% 3,705 $1,399 $135,561,531 15 2 (2) 1917 Universal $2,810,000 +126% -30% 3,987 $705 $112,396,389 38 3 N Gretel & Hansel United Artists $2,300,000 3,007 $765 $2,300,000 1 - (4) Dolittle Universal $1,960,000 +208% -29% 3,750 $523 $49,478,820 15 - (3) The Gentlemen STX Entertai… $1,850,000 +128% -50% 2,675 $692 $16,281,089 8 - (6) Jumanji: The Next Level Sony Pictures $1,480,000 +246% -14% 2,945 $503 $286,697,153 50 - N The Rhythm Section Paramount Pi… $1,155,000 3,049 $379 $1,155,000 1 - (9) The Turning Universal $920,000 +184% -63% 2,571 $358 $9,575,440 8 - (5) Little Women Sony Pictures $875,000 +81% -27% 2,301 $380 $96,630,632 38 - (7) Star Wars: The Rise of Sk… Walt Disney $852,000 +111% -32% 2,202 $387 $504,715,021 43

Great for Bad Boys and 1917!!! Surprised to see Dolittle up there, though... Dolittle is going to be a huge money loser for Universal, but it's benefiting from a dearth of family competition right now, hence its surprisingly okay holds.

Congrats to The Rhythm Section. It finally broke Hoot's record for the worst opening weekend record for a movie in more than 3000 theaters. Even for a film as badly marketed as The Rhythm Section, those numbers are truly awful. Surprised to see Dolittle still in the top 3,its made $55M so far, which is ok I guess,it's not quite the disaster I thought it would be.Knives Out dropped just 22% this week.

At this rate, it will challenge John Wick 3 and Hobbs & Shaw.

Glad to see 1917 doing so well and it LW will indeed cross 100 mil like we talked about. I think it's Saoirse's first 100 mil US movie.
Bad Boys has surprisingly good legs so audiences must like it a lot. Have not seen it myself.

This is an interesting weekend for some old franchises, award contenders, and other movies with mixed to relatively mediocre results.
Box office history kinda repeats itself in Jumanji 3 (or rather 2?)'s staying power.
