Yeah, as he often does with the Coen brothers Carter Burwell incorporates and adapts a lot of preexisting tunes in his score. Adapted.

what preexisting themes? I wasn't aware. Well, the two most memorable pieces from the Burwell soundtrack for me are the opening title which is basically a straight adaptation of 'Streets of Laredo' and the beautiful music in the Tom Waits segment which is an adaptation of 'Mother Machree'.

Some themes in The Gal Who Got Rattled play on "Cold Water" (not an original song) as well, but they're pretty subtle harmony parts.
