Sharbs This song is fantastic -- and not just because of goddess Phoebe Bridgers, but she's certainly a big part of it. Lovely acoustic ballad revealing yet another facet to this band ... they don't always "work" for me and I don't listen to them obsessively or anything, but you can't deny their range and that's beautifully shown with a song like this. Loved it! I usually dont take to their acoustic stuff like lots do, but I’m not someone who’s gonna fawn over the mere decibel of Matty. This is by far their best of the sort. Bridgers is magic.

Bob Dylan dropped his 17 minute corona-masterpiece and Ben Weasel/Screeching Weasel - not his real name either btw out of the blue drops his own 2 minute version of one - his first release in ages (also like Dylan!) - but especially one that sounds like THIS - like the pop-punk music he invented, and what many, many lesser bands copied and made fortunes from. Snide, sarcastic, loud, offensive, endlessly catchy in the way he could have written a million of these in his 90s genius era - he even is so loose on this - he let's out a "whoooo" here (twice!) which he never, ever does - but that's how hot this is....and if you're trapped at home, you could play this like what?........ a million times in a 24 hour day? Quarantinessential....

Paradise Lost has been one of the most consistently great metal bands of the last 30 years, have experimented with several genres and have always delivered very good records. They have a new album coming out in May and it seems that it is a continuation of the old school Doom Metal sound that was prominent in their latest album:

I once said on here that calling Spike Lee a "black American filmmaker" was a bad idea ("sociopathic" iirc) .......well calling THICK a gay, feminist band is a bad idea too (at least I'm consistent!). But calling them a good band sounds about right - and a very timely one too - and they may end up a very big deal - they are on a big label now - and because at their best they're righteous, funny and specific........and they're young too.

New Hamilton Leithauser album, The Loves of Your Life, is out today and is really good ... another emotionally fulfilling LP, and this song is a great example of that, has a really nice sound to it and the way it builds and crescendoes is very cathartic:

My favorite album this year so far is just a teen girl (I think she's a teen?) and her dad creating ear candy that is so sugary sweet your teeth may literally fall out.
I might be convinced this is too cute and contrived or a form of stage dad-isms and parental abuse gone really really wild....... but nothing else this year has these big hooks and it all ends in 35 minutes and at least 28 of those minutes completely work regardless.
........and it starts with this stupendous song which is a stone cold lock for my top 10 songs of 2020 .....and they are ExBats not the current Bats........... so they didn't start the virus, ok?

Another big Friday for new music ... Fiona Apple drops an absolute masterpiece, another awesome Dylan track ... but a bit more under-the-radar is the release of the solo debut or Radiohead's Ed O'Brien, Earth. It's nothing major, but I really, really dig this album's vibe ... this is the opening track which is just catchy and has a fun groove to it:

Look no one cares about Rock and Roll nowadays - it may as well be Polka........or the movies.
The Reflectors at least care about what it was and they have the sound down pat in the Nick Lowe/Exploding Hearts tradition and anybody copping licks from The mighty Fncking Exploding Hearts in 2020 (!) is ok in my book.
They just need a slicker producer because this power-pop song should really POP way more - and they are lagging behind their wonderful label mates - my lovecrush The ExBats - despite being the (relatively) adults in the room. But come on they are still playing Exploding Hearts type songs and their drummer is wearing a Buzzcocks T-shirt like a weirdo because the Buzzcocks weren't exactly known for their drumming were they and......that's so corny .......and genuinely sweet......... it's almost like Polka......or the movies.

My favorite album of 2020 so far - The Exbats "Kicks, Hits and Fits" (see earlier in this thread for a song from it) and here they are back already - fnck yeah! - Dad & Daughter - dropping a new cutesy "Cramps-like" novelty song for Record Store Day this week......it's primitive like The White Stripes 20 years ago and not as good but hey - Rock and Roll is a lot worse now - and I bet you Jack White loves this stuff....pacinoyes certainly does.....

Just listened to this - a great surprise after trying Fiona Apple's new one earlier today (not for me). For one, I wouldn't think a father-daughter duo would work out this well ("Jeez dad! My room is clean and my friends still don't like your corny jokes! But wanna jam?"). Back to the album - Pop-punky, catchy, funny - like "I Got the Hots for Charlie Watts" where it seems both like an inside joke and something timeless and gets stuck in your head. Reminds me a bit of Tacocat and their Lost Time. Funny enough, Exbats/Tacocat were playing shows together a few months ago in Texas...

Agreed and the best thing I can say about it, is it wasn't on my radar just like my 2019 fave album (Mike Krol) - its nice to be surprised. My friend tipped me off to The ExBats and I was like "Wait it's a pudgy girl and her dad - I don't think I'll like it?" and she was like "No, you will, that's what I thought too"

Do Nothing from their new EP sounding like LCD Soundsystem crossed with Art Brut crossed with John Cooper Clarke with that half talking/half singing approach which makes their wit easier to get........ and doing that very British thing where everybody tells you they are the future of Rock and Roll in 2020........... and so to make sure they stay that way, for now at least they just do singles and singles and now finally .........an EP(?!?) because releasing a full album - which is way late by now - that might be too dangerous, eh lads?

we listening to the new Waxahatchee? Took me a few listens but I'm really getting into this now. Love this closing track and some of my other favorites have been "Fire," "Can't Do Much," and "War," though I'm sure different songs will reveal more to me as I continue to listen to it. Probably second or third of the year for me right now... Waxahtachee has been constantly recommended to me by Spotify for a long time now so I'm glad I finally gave this try, will probably be exploring more of her/their music too

Jeremy Fury (of Jeremy & The Harlequins) - the ambitious singer-songwriter - has had the most maddening career - floating around for 15 years and never making anything near as good as his record collection.
Here he flat out swipes Springsteen's Born To Run riff (wtf!) and then stops - smacks himself in the head and suddenly he goes into 70s power pop form - and he does it like he's in the Nerves and it's 1976.
It is the best and least ambitious thing he's ever done - but you just know he thinks he has a Thunder Road in him - I can assure you he doesn't - but this will do great, don't fnck it up Jeremy.
