My apologies as I don't remember where you live, but are they administering the vaccine to healthcare workers and the elderly first? That's what they're doing here in Ontario with goals to have everyone (willing to be) vaccinated by September. I'm hoping school staff are next in line... Suburbs of Chicago. Yes, I believe that is the case. I don’t know what the timetable is for someone for myself, just know my wife signed us up. Hopefully it's not too long a wait!

Thank goodness, I didn't know how I was going to pay my hooker/pizza/bar tab in January .........kidding/sort of.......so closer to $600 per person it seems this time which should help a lot (seriously) .....we'll see Congressional leaders are near an agreement to add a new round of stimulus checks to a roughly $900 billion relief package as they rush to complete a deal before the end of the week, according to three people familiar with the talks granted anonymity to share internal deliberations.www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020/12/16/congress-stimulus-checks-relief/

This whole thing is crazy. People are gonna be legit homeless soon. And that is something but it will not help out a lot of people. This is why I save money for times like these, I do not depend on the govt to assist with these types of problems. Everyone should have an emergency fund.

My mom tested positive today. She said she feels like she got hit by a truck. Said she's very tired and achy, but doesn't seem to have any other symptoms at the moment. She's been instructed to stay home and quarantine for the next 14 days, so we'll see if it gets worse during that time. My dad and younger sister also live in the same house with her and they're both immuno-compromised...so that's really disconcerting.

Congress has agreed to a $900 billion stimulus deal after months of failed negotiations, which will provide much needed financial lifelines to Americans struggling with the economic fallout from the Covid pandemic.

UPDATE - My mom says she feels a little better every day, but she also has a new symptom each day, so I'm kinda confused. But now my dad has tested positive as well and apparently has gotten pneumonia on top of it. He has a lot of underlying conditions (asthma, seizures, liver issues and a brain aneurysm) that I'm afraid will prevent his body from fighting this as well as it might have otherwise. My younger sister is going to get retested in the next couple of days to see if she has it too...which I'm assuming she does. Pretty difficult to be around two people who have it all the time and not get it yourself. Guess we'll all just have to continue playing the waiting game and hope that none of them get any worse over the few days and weeks.

It's being announced today that Ontario is going into lockdown on Christmas Eve. The next couple days leading up to this are going to be a shitshow. So tired of the government's teasers for announcements coming days later.

Well my mom go vaccine (she’s a healthcare worker) so that’s a bit of relief of having one less thing to worry about.

in the saga of American politics, newest development is Trump trashing McConnell's bipartisan relief package with "ridiculously low" $600 stimulus checks and threatening to veto the bill if the amount isn't increased to $2000. Not sure where we go from here. Congress can still force this through but one of the reasons McConnell backed stimulus checks in the first place is because he was worried about the runoff, so Trump publicly calling for more money like this (and with Pelosi's House dems eagerly jumping at the opportunity) puts McConnell in a tight spot. Either he contradicts Trump, potentially angering some in the GA base, or he folds. One of the most baffling things about the GOP's resiliency this past year has been McConnell's stinginess. Direct payments are hugely popular and yet GOP seemingly didn't take any major hits from resisting them for seven months. I guess people hate dems more than they love free money? But now it's Trump calling for more money, and you don't defy the cult leader.

This is equivalent to a woman who just got dumped and tries to prove to her ex that she's hotter than the new girlfriend.

But now it's Trump calling for more money, and you don't defy the cult leader. It never affected the GOP because the Democratic establishment is abysmal at messaging. They never pushed the idea that Republicans were refusing to give taxpayers back their own money to protect them from a pandemic. They rested on the laurels of trying simply to resist Trump and it led to them winning the presidency and losing everything else that mattered for the next decade of politics.
