The Film ExperienceFrom Michael Showalter, the director of Hello, My Name is Doris and The Big Sick. Andrew Garfield will be playing the televangelist's/gay icon's husband, Jim. Production has already wrapped in Charlotte. What do you think?

I had never heard of this woman, but reading the Wikipedia page is interesting. Chastain has never failed me before and this seems like a meaty role that can subvert her Zero Dark Thirty/Molly's Game persona. I'm cautiously game.

She hasn't had a truly great role in years, so I'm definitely hyped. The supporting cast is stacked (Garfield, D'Onofrio, Cherry Jones) and the director is quite talented.

Martin Stett LaraQ - Here's a little bit of the background. The film will focus on the time after the downfall of their "empire." Apparently Kristin Chenoweth is also developing a Broadway musical based on her life!

The subject matter is really meaty. Maybe Michael Showalter will be the next Peter Farrelly or Todd Phillips. He came close with The Big Sick, and Sally Field did have some buzz for My Name Is Doris because there was like one open spot in Best Actress, but they just went with Jennifer Lawrence instead of Field or Maggie Smith.
I hope for Chastain's sake that it ends up turning out well. She did have Molly's Game, which did get some awards traction and she also had IT Chapter Two, but she's had a lot of misses the past few years.

Bad casting. Kristin Chenoweth would have been a much better choice but of course she can't land starring movie roles. Since they had to go with a name they should have gone with Reese. She would have pulled it off but Jessica... no.

I don't think she had such an interesting story to make a movie out of it.
But it's Chastain so count me in.

Yeah alright, the story has me intrigued. However, I do like Chastain as an actress though she has been in so many projects last decade to the point where she deserves a break & let other actresses have a shot at this one. Unfortunately, that is not the case. No idea of the budget though I will assume it would be smaller without her.

I remember Tammy Faye Baker. She was quite a character. She came across as very charming and kind through it all though.
It would have been hard for me to imagine who could play her, but I like Jessica Chastain as an actress and I have faith in her.

They should change the release date from September to November if they feel truly confident.

Some of the images I think Chastain looks like Tammy Faye, but in others it looks like really bad makeup to me. On the other hand, I think that Garfield looks more like Jim even if he doesn’t look exactly like him, and for me his makeup isn’t distracting at all. Not sure Chastain’s will be, it depends on how she handles the character, but just looking at the still images, it seems like it could be distracting.
I guess it’s a good sign Fox Searchlight is at least promoting it this early, but that release date doesn’t seem promising, I guess Judy opened in September although I think that was late September, and Zellweger had the transformation, baity role where she did her own singing, narrative, and didn’t have a lot of competition while this year looks like it could be competitive right now.

Melissa Leo in The Fighter called and said you can't have her Oscar.

The Social Network 99 Homes Hacksaw Ridge Silence Under The Silver Lake Mainstream
Andrew Garfield is very easily the most underrated actor of his generation
He has low-key built a remarkable body of work in these recent years, and he should be regarded at the same level of other actors of his same age range like Adam Driver and Robert Pattinson.
I hope he gets another Oscar nomination for this.

Elisabeth Moss would’ve been such a perfect choice but these pics of Chastain pique my interest.

From the Rob Reiner school of movie makeup:
Chastain looks fun though.

Chastain looks like a lot of fun, and while she doesn't exactly look like Tammy Faye (who does?), she's certainly got her personality down pat. I also think Garfield's exuding that worminess that Jim Bakker's known for. I really liked Showalter's last two films, so I'm hopeful this will continue the trajectory.

She looks nothing like Tammy Faye and she's too physically imposing.......BUT .......she has the voice down and plays it marvelously there - at least in the trailer - that's a great trailer for how it plays the dramatics of it - there's movie reality and "real" reality and everyone wants "movie reality" because if you want "real" reality stand on the sidewalk and watch that exciting drama of boredom ........or something. Side note: Guess it's too much to ask for Hollywood to make a movie about Christians who are actually you know representative of faith and not scumbags........at least every once in a while, huh?
