All 6 of the top 6 male seeds are into the Quarterfinals......... Zverev - the #6 - wins a 5th set tie break 2 years ago Zverev had to be carted off the French Open Court against Nadal - now Nadal is the one who can't walk, play tennis, make love to his wife, interact with his new born baby or urinate witout a catheter ..............and Zverev is into another quarterfinal........too much?

2 wins away from Grand Slam number 25........ the GOAT looks "beatable" in theory and dropped a set to Taylot Fritx.......hmmmmmmm...........but THE greatest 5 set player ever, the Greatest Majors Player Ever - also seems hard to beat at the same time too.....who can take 3 sets from him?

I saw Sinner today, but I haven't watched Djokovic after Davis cup, so I know nothing about his present shape.

Since winning Wimbledon and being proclaimecd the new "king"- he's lost before the finals of the US Open and Australia now..........he underperformed at the WTA finals too......several people are beating him nowadays - not just Djokovic, but Medvedev, Sinner, Zverev and more........... he's lost his #1 for a long time here.......may lose his #2 soon too........ is Sinner the better young player?Hmmmmmmmmm......

Alcaraz's problem is he's 20 years old and has reached the top. It's given him a degree of self-confidence that is teetering into arrogance and he needs to learn to curb it.
Like Federer before him, he's got too much game and he needs to learn to figure it out and know when to go for the higher percentage shot rather than the lower percentage one just because he can. That putting on a show is not the most important thing. Federer didn't get there till he was maybe 23/24, no way this kid is going to take that long.
Hubris is a disease, and he's got it, and he needs to learn how to keep it under control. In the grand scheme of things, it's a great problem to have compared to his peers like Rune and Sinner who are still trying to prove to people that they can compete at the highest stage to begin with. That's not a bridge you're even guaranteed to cross, but he already has, and now he's learning to live there.
There are certain stupid places on this planet he still isn't even old enough to buy a drink. People falling over themselves to bury him need to get a grip. He's light years ahead of where any other player in the last 25 years has been at that age in terms of how complete a game he has, how much he's won, how easily he can play anywhere. Indoors clearly so far is his one comparative weak spot, and that's because...
His other problem is he's maybe 5'10 or something and will likely only ever get his serve up to a certain point because of that. When someone like Zverev goes into the zone on serve, they are tough to keep up with.
All that said, that was a terrible loss after he had all the momentum in the 4th.

There was a great sports story -unrealized, alas here - where he beat Djokovic at Wimbledon - Djokovic then takes his USO Crown (won while Djokovic was banned in 22 ) and setting up the possibilty of Alcaraz taking Djokovic's AO crown (won without Alcaraz there due to injury in 23) I guess his coach wasn't there (?) - he looked quite lost too...... I was watching it with the sound off but he needed........... something today anyway......

There were other people there he trusts. When Zverev plays like he did the first two sets he is literally unplayable, even for Djokovic with his own brilliant serve and return. He wasn't unplayable the second two sets, but you spot the guy a two set lead and it gives him a major mental edge.

So we have two somewhat attractive (moreso Yastremska) white Russian females in the Finals? When was the last time the Finals featured 2 people from a Soviet country?

Truly pathetic collapse from Zverev. He was so good those first two sets in a way you never see him, but when Medvedev actually started to play in the third and fourth he was clearly second best, but his inability to even make a match of it in the fifth was laaaaaaaaaaaaame.
Sinner will probably be happy about this, as he finally seems to have solved the Medvedev problem, while Zverev is still pretty much his daddy. At least that was the case before today, when Jannik became a new man.

Thank FUCK it isn't a Djokovic/Zverev final. Hopefully Sinner takes it.

And saying this.... congrats to Sabalenka for her 2nd Grand Slam. Zheng was excellent on 2 plays volleying the ball off her heel on back-to-back plays, but Sabalenka smacked it back and earned the point despite all the hard effort from Zheng.... .. overall Zheng was no match. I prefer women's sports to lots of men's sports. I like women's tennis more than men's. More parity. Djokvic, Nadal, Federer every single time is not interesting after a while. I like women's basketball more than the NBA. Both are relatively boring and I rarely watch either but the only reason I only even watch any games of women's basketball (never watched a minute of it during the Bird/Magic/Pistons/Jordan era) is because the NBA is nearly unwatchable now, forcing me to default. Soccer.... half and half. If it's Argentina vs France.... it's men's soccer by far. The best of the best is men's soccer but if it's an average game Ukraine vs Slovakia I think women's soccer at least has some attractive women but men's soccer is not that interesting outside the top teams. I like softball too. and a little bit of volleyball. I prefer both to college football which honestly is the same issue. Always Alabama/Georgia/Michigan/Ohio St. and once glorious but anymore like NBA. But NFL is the best. I prefer the NFL by far over any other league.
