It's not a record or anything, so it may not be trivia exactly but it has to be the quirkiest side bar unless I'm totally drawing a blank: Phoenix and Pacino both nodded in the same year for 2 different roles created (first) by the same actor (Nicholson).

Also, as I mentioned a few weeks ago, Ronan and Phoenix are nominated for roles that other actors have previously been nominated for playing.

John Williams breaks his own record as the most nominated living person by getting his 52nd nomination. How long has he been breaking his own record? It’s comical at this point.

Scorsese is the 3rd oldest nominee ever for Best Director
Hopkins is 7th oldest ever for Supporting Actor and Pacino is 10th. (Side note - 8 of the 10 oldest nods in this category are from this century)

Kathy Bates has been nominated every decade since the 1990s. Not really a record, but a neat stat that proves her longevity.
Every time Leonardo DiCaprio has gotten a Best Actor nomination, he's gotten a co-star nominated along with him in Best Supporting Actor: Alan Alda, Djimon Hounsou, Jonah Hill, and Tom Hardy. This streak continues with Brad Pitt.

Cynthia Erivo is the third person to receive acting and song nominations for the same film. Third person in a row to do it after Mary J. Blige and Lady Gaga. Before Blige, it had never happened before.

This streak continues with Brad Pitt. Normally, it's because he campaigns pretty heavily for his co-stars. He was pushing pretty strongly for Alda, Hounsou, Hill, and Hardy. Hill and Hardy had no precursor nominations at all while Alda and Hounsou only had 1 precursor nomination apiece, so it's mighty impressive that he managed to pull them all in with him. He didn't do that as much this year (maybe because he realized Pitt didn't need his help and was a lock), but I thought Pitt pushed for DiCaprio (primarily with his very gracious Globe speech).

This year marks the lowest number of first-time acting nominees since 1936, when the supporting categories were introduced. There are only five newbies this year (Banderas, Erivo, Johansson, Pugh and Pryce).

I forgot Chastain had The Help the previous year and for some reason forgot Helen Hunt was an actual winner.

Since Sally Menke's passing, Quentin Tarantino has been unable to score an Editing nomination for his films. This is despite the fact that the 2010s have been kinder to his movies than before, in terms of nominations/wins.
Not entirely sure about this one, but: if when Brad Pitt wins, he will be the first performer since Helen Hunt to win an Oscar for a fictional character while beating four biopic performances.

I am off my game today. But I am sure that someone did this.

Damn, QT needs a new editor. I've often said that Sally was as crucial to Tarantino as Schoonmaker is to Scorsese, and losing her really killed a lot of what made Tarantino's films so special. She was willing to cut his darlings, whereas I feel like Raskin isn't, and Tarantino's movies definitely have a different, more indulgent feel post- Basterds.

Django and OUATIH are spotty, but The Hateful Eight is an editing masterclass.

Tom Hanks is the latest addition to the 4 decades club (actors who've been nominated in 4 consecutive decades), the one before him was Julia Roberts in 2013.
Scarlett Johansson has become the first actor to receive double noms in a single year since Cate Blanchett in 2007.
