The only person of color (among many who could have been nominated) got her acting nomination for the epitome of Oscar bait. The Academy will never change. If it’s a person of color, you really are better off getting Oscar attention playing a slave or a maid. They chose Erivo over Nyongo as expected and funny enough Nyongo’s only other nomination and win was for playing a slave. Fucking sad. Factually, that's incorrect. Very few of the acting winners or nominees of people of color got attention because of playing a salve or maid.
With Nyong'o, it had more to do with the film genre of US.

In a year when a populist film leads the nominations it's sort of criminally telling that Hustlers didn't get a single fucking nomination. I mean aside from the one everyone was expecting this thing would have easily deserved a screenplay nom, could have comfortably fit in costume, director, editing, and it got NOTHING!
It's doubly sad because it's everything the aforementioned populist nomination leading film wanted to be. A Scorsese clone, but this was Goodfellas with women that actually managed to go to some degree deeper than the film it was aping.

You woke up to a brain that thinks Todd Phillips is a good director? My condolences. my condolences to you too. I’ve been predicting Joker and Phoenix all season, BB. But feel free to validate your taste with the same Academy that gave Bohemian Rhapsody four Oscars last year!

Haven't watched 2 POPES yet so I can't judge but is Pryce really better than De Niro? No, but he's very good. Not the worst nominee in the category by a long margin.

I expected nothing from the Academy and I was right. Translation: “they didn’t pick the ones I like...wah wah wah.” Wow, imagine that! Having an opinion about award nominees, and voicing that opinion in a message board about awards. The audacity.

Big as a fan I was, I never saw it happening. He’s Adam Sandler, after all.

Haven't watched 2 POPES yet so I can't judge but is Pryce really better than De Niro? De Niro is my 2nd favorite actor, but I thought Pryce was better, yes. He's amazing in it.

No, but he's very good. Not the worst nominee in the category by a long margin. Who the do you think is the worst Nominee in the leading actor category? It's an extremely competitive category. I'm glad Antonio Banderas got it. He's long over due.

It's doubly sad because it's everything the aforementioned populist nomination leading film wanted to be. A Scorsese clone, but this was Goodfellas with women that actually managed to go to some degree deeper than the film it was aping. They went very populist again except for the two Netflix films where it's hard to really tell what the numbers were; although, I think that The Irishman would have made money if it had been released going by the buzz for it on social media. It wouldn't have come close to recouping its budget, but I think there was an audience there because of Scorsese and reuniting with De Niro and working with Pacino for the first time. Marriage Story probably would have done the same as Jojo Rabbit or better. Maybe not especially great, but probably a low budget plus people going to see it because of its award buzz. Parasite is doing well in America for a foreign film, but even better outside of the US. Then of course Ford v Ferrari, Joker, Little Women, 1917, and OUATIH will have made over $100 million domestically by the time that they're box office runs are done.

Ad Astra for Sound Mixing has got to be the biggest surprise of these, right? Also, why the fuck did I allow the internet to convince me in Lopez? I used to think she was definitely getting snubbed several months ago but gave in! Should've stuck with my initial feeling.

In terms of hitting all the industry precusors, Taron Egerton was arguably the biggest snub in Best Actor. The guy wanted it bad as well. When I heard he invited all 90 memebers of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to his birthday party , I was like Melissa Leo and Eddie Redmayne had been usurped in the thirst stakes

Also, I love that the Supporting Actor category is like this huge comeback party! Hanks, Hopkins, Pacino and Pesci haven't been nominated for years and now they're all back in the game
