Bong is always legendary, but his speech for Best Director was easily an all-timer. Yeah, that was good. I'm happy he won. I did not want Mendes to win. 1917 was okay for me. Not a great winner, but not one of the worst. However, the idea of Mendes winning a Best Director and Best Picture twice while Scorsese has only won once and Tarantino zero times was too much. So glad he didn’t end up winning even though my curse continues, lol.

Fincher winning next year would actually perfectly suit the beginning of the new decade

Well, one thing is for sure, you've got a better shot if your picture is in a festival.

Bong becomes the first director since Soderbergh to win Best Director without winning at least DGA, BAFTA or the Globe. Fuck, I forgot about Ang Lee for Life of Pi! Although that situation was even weirder since the winner of all those things wasn't nominated at the Oscars

I think I have the power to jink BP nominees by predicting them because I've been wrong six years in a row now. Y'all should be thanking me! I know how you feel. I should have known Parasite was going to win after I predicted 1917. I can’t wait to see what films I curse next year. Beware Mank, The French Dispatch, News of the World, Tenet, etc. You stay away from Tenet!

I knew Scorsese didn't have a shot at all and hopefully, he comes back strong on his next film.

Happy for Parasite. One of the best two films of the year imo, although the Irishman got "Ganged", as expected.
Never thought Parasite winning BP would be a shock but still I didn't predict it.
Deakins was a deserved winner, also.
Joaquin gave the best performance of the year and Pitt/Dern deserved an Oscar in their careers but imo not for this year's performances.
Very predictable wins this year except for Parasite, which made my day.

Just read through the whole thread after watching the show with family and it was an absolute pleasure reliving the HOLY FUCK awesomeness of that BD/BP upset via all of your great posts. This will probably be the most unanimously joyous reaction our board shares together on Oscar night for a long while. Thanks MAR! This went from my least favorite Oscar race in history to my absolute favorite in the span of twenty minutes. They actually got it right!

Have mixed feelings about this. For once it's great they chose a great movie, as Parasite currently is my #2 of the year. And especially that the big one finally went to a foreign movie. The down side is that Parasite won over an even better movie, that was the favourite, which stings a bit as of now.

I was glad to wake up to Parasite winning! Was fully expecting 1917 to win. Well done to the academy for getting it right for once.

Boring how all 4 acting winners sweeped, it's not like they were so far ahead of their competition. It just feels like laziness and herd mentality.

Ok, now that I had a good night of sleep, some thoughts:
- Phoenix is finally an Oscar winner! He's one of my favorite actors and he's deserved this since Two Lovers in 2008. Ain't no controversy, incel reddit fandom or boring race that's gonna rob this moment: he finally got his overdue love. - Same goes to Dern and Pitt. - Parasite. Fucking Parasite. So inspired, all of its wins! I was predicting but it was more of hopedicting hahaha And how happy was Diane Keaton when she announced its screenplay victory? - I do like 1917 and considering how baity was, at least it was good bait. I was resigned that AMPAS would go after the usual fare and I had no problem with it. As much as I like Mendes, can't say I'm sad that his movie underwhelmed though. We'll probably have war movies as frontrunners forever, but how many Parasites are we likely to have? - As a watcher, I thought the ceremony got really, really boring halfway into it.

Oh, and isn't it great that we've had smaller, newer studios like A24 and Neon trumping bigger movies from bigger studios this decade? Hope this trend continues as it gives us fresher outcomes.

Not watching this but based on these responses this was either the best or worst musical performance of all time. Monae has never given a bad performance, don't know what the rest of these jokers were watching. Not until now. That was dreadful.

So, to add my two cents... While Parasite wasn't my favourite of the year (#4), and the three films ahead of it in my lineups were also Best Picture nominees; I'm still delighted that it won. Also delighted for Phoenix, who has long been my favourite working actor, and his Arthur Fleck is my leading actor win for last year. I'm very pleased for Zellweger too, as she is my personal runner up and the best of the nominees. I really love Pitt and Dern, but I wish they hadn't won for these performances. Still, a part of me smiles at the fact they are acting Oscar winners. From the Screenplay winners, Parasite is a fine choice but I think Once Upon... should have took that one home. I'm more than happy with the Jojo win. Really pleased 1917 took home cinematography, as that was a no brainer for me.
The Academy knocked it out of the park with Best Picture this year, and then they made a really fine choice from a great bunch.
