1. Tag (2015, Sono) 2. Antiporno (2016, Sono) 3. It Follows (2014, Mitchell) 4. The Witch (2015, Eggers) 5. The Lighthouse (2019, Eggers)
This has been by far the worst decade for horror since the 1950s.

1. Madoka Magica: Rebellion - Not a traditional "horror" film, but it's a spiritual horror. A crisis of faith. 2. Green Room - The most viscerally intense film of the decade? 3. Sicario - Again, a sort of spiritual horror of someone being driven to learn too much of how he world works. 4. It Follows 5. The Babadook

Why isn't Matthew Fox in more movies Why isn't he in more Zahler movies? He could have been a much better choice as one of the villains in Dragged Across Concrete.

Why isn't he in more Zahler movies? He could have been a much better choice as one of the villains in Dragged Across Concrete. Or Mad Mel's partner. I still wish that Zahler had made an all-female cast with that, though. Just get the Widows cast and make a good movie.

A genre in which I was never really interested. Having said that, I enjoyed the following (no order):
Conjuring Black Swan Hereditary It Follows

1. Under the Skin 2. Hereditary 3. The Lighthouse 4. The Cabin in the Woods 5. Get Out
I could name a buch more, like The Babadook or The Witch or Midsommar or The Killing of a Sacred Deer or The Conjuring or A Quiet Place. On a whole, this probably the best decade for horror since the 70s.

Gonna have to address genre definitions here because there are quite a few films mentioned in this thread already that I either like or love that I don’t personally see as horror ... Green Room and I Saw the Devil are great but they’re gory thrillers to me, I can see the argument though as they are largely fear-based ... and Under the Skin is just surreal sci-fi to me, that one I really don’t see the argument for, it’s eerie but it’s not scary and it’s not really trying to be.
Would agree with the sentiment that this was a pretty weak decade for the genre, but this is a genre that tends to have more misses than hits for me so I’d probably feel the same elsewhere too. This is a very off the top of my head top five that I recognize is going to very basic, due to overlooking stuff and simply not having seen enough probably...
The Wailing The Lighthouse Hereditary It Follows Get Out
I will he taking no further questions at this time about my definition of this genre as I now realize it makes no sense to consider Get Out a horror film but not Green Room. Good night.

Good night. I don't like traditional "scary" movies, as a rule. I find something like Apocalypse Now a thousand times scarier than Halloween. So I fudge the rules to include films that either gave me traditional scares ( Green Room, for all of its thriller elements, is a terrifying work of paranoia) or something that is horrifying on a spiritual level (the self-accusation and condemnation of MM:R, or the horror of learning that your worldview is wrong in Sicario). Those instill far more fear in me than the wonderfully realized scares of Under the Shadow or The Babadook or It Follows.

Some really cool list you guys! themoviesinner, I tried searching for The Blue Elephant but no luck It's neither on Netflix or Amazon or anywhere. Where can I see this? There are so many on the list here that I so want to watch but just can't because I've heard they're very gory and I just can't handle those esp Bone Tomahawk, I saw the Devil and Green Room. Oh, and I totally forgot about Sacred Deer. It's definitely no.2 on my list. Btw, did anyone of you catch The Eyes of My Mother? It's soo brilliant guys.

Some really cool list you guys! themoviesinner, I tried searching for The Blue Elephant but no luck It's neither on Netflix or Amazon or anywhere. Where can I see this? The only way I can think of is by torrent (that's how I watched it). It's an Egyptian film that, as far as I know, has never been distributed outside Arabic countries.
