I know everyone's into "fat acceptance" now but this is not normal, natural, or healthy. It's a result of the shitty processed food everyone eats and increasingly sedentary lifestyles.
The thing that really gets me is how many young people are obese. If you're in your 20's just show some self control with the junk food and get some hobbies that involve physical activities other than sitting on your ass and you should be good. I understand older people's metabolisms slow down so you're going to have more body fat as you age but there's no excuse to have all these fat college kids.

I understand older people's metabolisms slow down so you're going to have more body fat as you age but there's no excuse to have all these fat college kids. Our food is trying to kill us. I try to eat *real* food and my mother tries to shame me for it because it's expensive and that I'm wasting my money. It's infuriating to speak with her about this... or about guns (she's getting into public political speeches about guns now despite... well, that's a whole story that I'll put in spoiler tags. It's actually pretty cool, and happened before she went insane). Or about Trump. Or about education. Or about race (dear lord). At least we share the same view on abortion, so if I ever feel a crushing need to bash her skull in I can move the conversation monologue in that direction and try to shut my brain off. Do I sound bitter? I've had to put up with her preening about the right to carry firearms nonstop for the past few days. I'm very fucking bitter. Okay, so there's a cool story about mom and guns. I'm getting this from her and she's been known to exaggerate the facts, but this one is corroborated by Dad, and he normally stays out of these things. When I was a kid, we lived in a very bad neighborhood. We rented out to some people that turned out to be drug dealers. Long story short, mom didn't get along with them and I think reported them to the police. So they put a contract out on her life. The cops found out, told mom that she had to carry a gun for her own protection, and she refused because there were young children in the house and she found it far more likely that we'd wind up shooting ourselves than to encounter any real danger. Nothing came of it, in the end. She still doesn't have a gun.

I don't see this getting better anytime soon. The diet of the average American is horrible and the number of people who actually regularly exercise is stupidly low.

Obesity is on the rise in Europe as well . I'm seeing more and more overweight kids. It's pretty scary.

I've read that Americans living in poor areas cannot afford to eat fruits and vegetables because they're getting more and more expensive. I've also read that a lot of those kids living in those areas have never eaten f+v in their lives.

I've read that Americans living in poor areas cannot afford to eat fruits and vegetables because they're getting more and more expensive. I've also read that a lot of those kids living in those areas have never eaten f+v in their lives. I think there's a lack of access to it because of food deserts. Like here in one of the biggest cities of Ohio, I know that there's several poor areas where it's very difficult without transportation to go to a store that does have fresh fruit and vegetables. Some places only have convenient stores because the supermarkets have moved out of the poor areas because they lose too much money there. On top of that the public transportation system is pretty lacking here, so that makes it even more difficult for people living in poor areas to be able to have convenient access to fruits and vegetables. I've read that Americans living in poor areas cannot afford to eat fruits and vegetables because they're getting more and more expensive. I've also read that a lot of those kids living in those areas have never eaten f+v in their lives. Pretty much. "Never" is too strong of a word, but the only affordable food is fake. This too. I know Orange Juice isn't exactly healthy, but compared to orange drink like Sunny D or a generic brand, it's definitely more expensive. Processed foods like ramen noodles and macaroni and cheese are incredibly cheap and unfortunately a staple of many poor people's lives. Likewise plain white bread is the cheapest kind of bread there is to buy while multi-grain bread is much more expensive. Canned vegetables are cheaper than frozen vegetables, and a lot cheaper than fresh vegetables. Bologna and other unhealthy lunch meat is a lot less expensive than something like turkey breast or chicken breast. Processed American cheese is a lot cheaper than most other kinds of cheeses. Even with free school meals, breakfast usually consists of a donut and cheese or sugary cereals, and lunch isn't any better, but for a lot of of kids in poor areas, that's all they get all day.

morton Why orange juice isn't healthy? I make it at home squeezing oranges, without adding sugar. If you use red Sicilian oranges, it's even better, but I know they aren't easily available abroad. Anyway, regular oranges are fine, and I guess the USA are big oranges producers.

Sorry I meant that most store bought orange juice isn't really healthy at least in the US because they store it for so long, and then add flavor back to it. It not only loses a lot of it's nutrients this way, but when they add flavor back to it, they're often adding in unhealthy things.

This randomly showed up in my recommended Youtube videos. This isn't a study, just some guy, but he raises great points on why America is so fat (especially the lack of variety in convenient food here).

this is mostly an issue with what food is available to what people and how ridiculously corrupt and monopolized the food industry has become. like yeah people should try to stay healthy but there are many outside factors hindering that which are somewhat exclusive to the US. fat shaming some people as opposed to going after the companies actually responsible is dumb and near sighted.
inb4 lol fattie, my BMI is probably lower than anyone's on here

Yup. It's not brought up enough that the reason low income people eat such fattening foods is because they're cheaper. A fast food combo will always be less expensive than a kale salad. There are many more factors that go into obesity than "fat acceptance," like the economy, sociology and psychology too. To reduce it to "people should eat healthier" is an oversimplification, and an unhealthy one at that.

....Did you watch the video I provided? The problem isn't poverty, it's that the only "cheap" and convenient food available is trash that is actively trying to kill us. Venezuela poor is not USA poor.
